Have we had a travel advice thread for Barcelona?

Loved this as well. I pop along to this every year to just sit down and relax in it. Beautiful building.

Stayed there 1 night about 10 years ago on the way to Bennicasim, drank some lager I think.

Always felt touristy but there were more American accents and people stood around not knowing what to do the last time I went

One of my favourite photos of me is leaning against a wall near Park Guell and written in huge letters is ‘A GOOD TOURIST IS A DEAD TOURIST’.

Very much my happy place. Going for visit 7 in Feb. Cannot wait.

Seem to do it a bit differently every time, but it is the best. Gone a bit nuts for Miro, and highly recommend his foundation on Montjuic - best day out of the year, this year, was there in Feb, in the lovely sun, then getting the cable car back to town. Bloody marvellous.

Staying in Poblenou again (basically just in from Primavera site). It is so ruddy good - has it’s own la rambla, but crucially this time it isn’t shit, and is full of great food, some cracking bars (including a belter of a beer bar) and goes straight down onto a nice beach. Well good.

Barcelona was the traditional third year field trip for my degree. The guy in charge told us they’d never had a trip there without at least one person being pick pocketed.

In the end I think the only person in my test was a guy who drank too much, went to sleep on a bench, and woke up to find his jacket (which had his wallet and phone in it) had been removed from him and stolen.

Been six times, never had an incident.

For those that have been to Barcelona

  • I have never been robbed
  • I’ve been robbed
  • Someone with me was robbbed

Additional option: Someone with me had a robbery attempt made on them.

Attempted robberies are included

Oh, okay then.

The thing about failed robbery attempts is that it’s unlikely that you’ll notice them if they happen to you though.

I’ve been walking behind people and seen pickpockets moving from person to person trying and failing to lift a phone from a bag, and the victim is totally unawares, to the point that they’d probably vote for the first option in the poll.

Manchester Bar for happy hour and Bollocks Bar for the lols.

Aye Manchester is fun, as is Nevermind

Four times and I’ve never had anything happen to me.

The only hassle any member of any group I was with happened in 2015. One of the lads got separated from the gang as we were leaving Parc Del Forum late one night. Unfortunately he’d had more than his fair share of MDMA and got a bit disorientated. He slept on a bench near the beach and had his wallet and shoes stolen. Was very interesting trying to get him back into the festival the next day.

To be fair, other than the time I went to Primavera, and a previous stag, my trips have been very family orientated. No one nicking your shoes or wallet when you sleep in a lovely hotel.

In fairness to Las Ramblas - the tourist eateries there are better in my experience than the tourist eateries in many other big European cities. We were knackered on arrival, dumped the suitcases and ate in the first place we came across pretty much. Prices were OK as were food. In Paris we found this basically impossible in comparison.

Pickpocketing though yeah, could sense people eyeing us up definitely, especially looking lost with suitcases.

I agree - it isn’t that bad, and loads of really good stuff just off it.

Also, first holiday ever with Mrs Huntspill, and something magical happened: We were right at the bottom of La Ramblas, by the statue and there was a lovely old couple who decided to have a tender moment, and a little kiss. He then copped a feel of her tit.

Despite this happening 11 years ago, Mrs Huntspill still mentions it at least once a month.

Aye, I was wanting to ask what the switch is for families with kids. In this case, a two year old.

MsWza is gunning for an easy week holiday in February. Barcelona is one option (3*, I think). Lanzarote 4* half board is the other. Our last holiday was in London this summer. Was great going to museums and kids play bits and parks, etc. So urban holidaying witha small person isn’t alien, and we’re not really ‘resort’ types. But MsWza seems keen on the simple package job to Lanzo. I can see her point, but have never been to Barca. (Also it’s kind of a 40th thing for me.)

So, yeah, Toddlers in Barca?

Interesting fact - actually a fella despite the name. Sadly no longer with us.
