And was it better than your £10 short back and sides
- Yes, it was better
- Yes, it wasn’t any better
- Nope
And was it better than your £10 short back and sides
History of the price of my haircuts
12-16 - £8
17 - 31 - Free (sister is a hairdresser and did it for me)
31 - 37 - £24 (was £19 when I started going and has risen slowly to £24)
My barber is off on a long trip back to Turkey and I’m in pretty desperate need of a hair cut. Looked at a local one and they’re charging £40 for the same as I get with Hector (cut and hot towel). Might wait it out.
Once went to a salon for a haircut and when I arrived they told me the person that was supposed to do it was off sick so the salon manager would be doing it. Then they charged me an extra £20 because that was the salon manager’s rate?!
Went back to normal barber shops after that.
Never really liked barbers so used to go to a more salon-y place in my 20s where it was like £30 a go (this was in the 2000s as well), pricey but he’d usually give me alcohol as well.
Was fine.
Phones make it easier now cos I can show pictures of what I want. My current usual is £15.
Absolutely better.
Got a $10 back around 96-97, got home and realized one side of my hair was way longer than the other. Only time I’ve ever given myself a buzz cut.
I keep dropping hints to various barbers that there’s nothing i can do with my hair in the hope they suggest something or try something different but no it looks like I’m stuck with this daft quiff for life.
Really enjoy cutting my own hair. Crazy half an hour where I bring as many mirrors into the bathroom as possible. Inevitably doesn’t end up like intended because I’m trying to get it level. Even when it’s bad I can just tell myself I’m rejecting norms and feel fine about it
And in relation to the question, love not paying for it
You and your mum
Few things are as worthy of extra expense as a haircut.
Vast majority of barbers only know how to cut one style, don’t listen to instructions, and spend about 7 minutes on the cut
But also in a week it grows and looks different anyway
I have such shit hair/hairline/head that it doesn’t seem worth it. Like there’s very few options for me annoyingly.
Used to share a flat with a Vidal Sassoon hairdresser who would get us free haircuts from their new hairdressers and they were almost always shit.
yeah, go to an eco place that’s super inclusive. not cheap but worth it just from a sensory perspective tbh, not too bright or loud, can ask for a silent apt if I’m not up to chatting.
Used to go to a Turkish place that was around £12, but the quality varied wildly depending on who you got (there was no booking - just lucky dip as to who was available when you rolled up). Tested out a few other places round town (including one where they didn’t know how to use scissors) and eventually found one that’s consistently ok but more like £25 now. They’re also super lgbtq+ inclusive, big flag in the window etc so no regressive chat which is nice.
it’s shocking how common this is
I’ve never had a haircut
Fappable does mine
Been cutting my own hair for 15 years plus. Always seems fine
