Yep, I’ve seen an Adder in the Lakes. My wife also has as her gran’s cat used to bring in grass snakes.

There’s adders in Southern Cemetery but no one ever believes me (despite the gardeners going around warning people about them)

I feel like I have but I can’t remember a specific occasion.

Edit: I’m changing my answer to no, I think I just heard a lot about grass snakes and adders as a child rather than actually seeing them.

Technically it was dead when I saw it. I was working in the kitchen at Tittenhurst Park, you know John Lennon’s old gaff, from the Imagine video and suchlike. It was then owned by the one and only, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, one of his chefs had killed it and wanted to cook it. They were not allowed to, so they chucked in a big industrial bin, leaving hanging over the edge.

I’ve seen a slow worm but doing a quick search I see that is classed as a legless lizard not a snake

Vaguely remember my primary school being evacuated because an adder was spotted on the field.

The same school where everyone got locked in their classrooms for like 4 hours because a ‘panther’ had been spotted nearby.

Yeah, seen a few adders during the summer.

Used to get loads of slow worms in our garden when I was wee which look just like a snake but technically aren’t.

Woah, was this school in Guildford? When I was at university a bloke I knew went out for a run and when he came back claimed he saw a panther. He phoned up the police to report it and everything

Yes, at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Got a bit of a microclimate going on there, so there’s an abundance of snakes AND lizards.

Nah, Haslemere. 1997 or 98. I did go to a primary in Guildford for two years before this one, but don’t recall any panthers.

Ah, right. I know you used to live in the area so wondered whether it was the same panther. This was 1994 though so maybe by 97 it’d had enough of Guildford and moved to Haslemere
