It’s probably José Saramago, and I’ve only read two of his books

Don’t worry I’ve only read two books and one of them was a magazine.

Reading Blindness at the moment and it’s amazing. Any others I should read of his? Oh and I completely forgot to add Akutagawa to my list - sorry buddy!

The Double. Incredible book.

That’ll be the next thing I read then - thanks! Do hope that’s some doppelganger-y type thing because I adore Dostoevsky’s The Double!

Richard Yates
Gabriel García Marquez
Philip Roth
Carson McCullers

Reckon Richard Yates could be a contender for me if I read the rest of his books, only done revolutionary road, young hearts crying and the easter parade

Yes, that’s it! Might watch it again. Thanks for finding it

I recommend Eleven Kinds of Loneliness and his last novel Cold Spring Harbour

He was very hit and miss admittedly, not helped by his bouts of alcoholism, but when he was in the zone for me he wrote some of the greatest works of the 20th century. Excellent character writer. One of the best I’ve ever read. The characterisation of the two sisters in The Easter Parade is incredible.

If Nobody Speaks… is one of my favourite novels. The opening passage is beautiful - I used to use it to try and teach spotty 12 year olds about descriptive writing.

casual sweet af guitar in the corner.

really want to get some nice stuff soon :frowning:

Well when I got that guitar as a birthday gift about 15 years ago, someone made me feel bad and deflated my happiness about getting it by sneering that it wasn’t a “real” jaguar.

whats not real about it? looks like a jag to me.

Jagmaster. Half jaguar, half jazz-master. The model I’ve got only got made for a couple of years though. They relaunched it again as a cheaper model a few years after that, but then discontinued it. I got given it as a birthday gift in 2002.

Ah you see it’s the cheaper range, and everyone knows the only way to not be a massive loser is to have a £600+ guitar.

i’d say the opposite is true tbh.

There were certainly a lot of fragile egos in my local music scene.

I got enough stick/challenge for daring to listen to music and own a guitar, that I just avoided any kind of playing in front of other people at all.
