Having friends over for dinner thread (rolling)

Our friends will be around in 6 hours and we’ve not decided exactly what we’re cooking yet so of course I’m sat on the sofa starting a thread about it.

Umming and aahing a bit but I think we’ve decided we’re doing mustard chicken with dauphinoise potatoes and green veg.
Not sure what to make for a starter. Any ideas, anyone?
Our friends are bringing pudding.

Please use this thread to discuss what you’re cooking for friends and to share recipes, advice, miffle and faff instead of getting on with tje actual preparations.

Leek surprise

Scallops wrapped in bacon

Scallops are easy and fairly light so won’t fill you up too much.

Butternut squash soup or something is easy to do too

Soups a bit boring unless you serve it with freshly baked home made bread.

It’s quite a rich meal so perhaps hors d’oeuvres instead?

They did stuffed peppers for us last time we went round there’s so that’s out.

There’s leek in the chicken dish.

My friends would probably love that but I don’t like scallops or any other shellfish.

Nice easy starter/side. Love burrata.

Stuffed mushrooms always a good starter.

Or maybe like a crustini bread with a white bean salsa verde.

I hate mushrooms :frowning:

The white bean salsa verde sounds good though!
