Heartbroken

In an astonishing turn of events that has brought two xylo hotbutton issues crashing together:

Sophie Ellis Bextor on Room 101 just said she found it annoying when people laugh or clap at plays to show they understand.

I think I might have an aneurism :’(

Shakespeare isn’t funny

#3

#4

I got an A* in my A level English Lit, I would know

#5

hmm.

Clapping during a play is weird, at the end or at an interval is obviously fine.

Laughing is obviously fine, unless it’s annoyingly over the top.

Which reminds me Sophie Ellis Bexter is playing at my local beer festival next month.

Never sure what the correct etiquette is for clapping in a play. Sometimes it’s at the end of a scene, every scene, sometimes it’s just whenever!

I also get incredibly annoyed when actors drag out an applause for a second bow when the audience clearly aren’t into it.

#8

So you don’t find it annoying when people laugh or clap at plays to show they understand?

#9

her insinuation was that EVERYONE who was laughing was only doing so for that purpose. Ross Kemp agreed with her >:-(

#10

I very much doubt Ross Kemp has ever understood a play.
