No poll from @plasticniki on thermostat temperatures? For shame!

Anyway

I have bled my radiators this year

I get really bad cramp in my feet when I’m cold. No amount of warm socks seems to do the trick, although a spell under a blanket sometimes does.

I trust you’re a fully signed up member of the Totes and Lined Slippers Crew?

Didn’t even think to make one cos we have storage heaters :woman_shrugging:

I think you just know what a shitstorm you’d unleash if you did make one

[I mean meo and marckee have already fired their first warning shots.]

I did them last year, and they still seem to be fine this year.

I’m cold

Me too. They’ve not turned the heating on at work yet. The air conditioning is still on ffs :expressionless:

There’s nothing Mrs F likes more than hunting round the shops for ingenious new clothing items. My Christmas stocking is usually filled with various Christmas stockings (socks and slippers).

Got the fire going this weekend. Despite the cat’s disgusting lack of interest, it was ace.

Is £279 for a nest thing worth it?

Quite jealous of all you thermostat types ITT. Got a proper old Worcester Bosch boiler, would love to rip it all up and get some app controlled heating. Generally have it set to come on for an hour in the morning before getting up, and have an hour in the evening about 6.

Popped it on for the first time this autumn on Saturday for an hour, but just a manual boost. Haven’t locked in the automatic schedule yet, but can’t imagine its too far away.

that’s some hardcore passive-aggression

i try not to think about heating/utility costs too much when house-sharing becuase you’ll just end up driving yourself a bit mad or, worse, become someone like Scout’s housemate. just one of those things you take on the chin when house-sharing

It depends.

It can make financial sense if you have unpredictable hours at home (eg, you’re away for odd days now and again, or if you get home from the office at different times every night), but £279 is probably about what, 30% of your annual fuel bill? It would take a lot of efficiency savings to cover that cost over, say, 5 years.

They seem like a cool gadget, but I just don’t think it’s enough of a pain point for me. If I get home and the house is cold I just stick the heating on and it warms up pretty quickly. I also had a bad experience with the Nest smoke detectors and that put me off them a bit, but the thermostat does look very cool.

it’s fucking baltic here in the mornings for a good 9 or 10 months of the year so ours is always on for at least an hour in the morning

one of life’s simple pleasures is pulling on boxers/socks that’ve been nicely warming on the radiator whilst you’re in the shower
