Ours is ‘on’ all the time in as much as it’s set to 18C for an hour or two in the morning and again in the evening. If it’s cold enough, it comes on. Defo kicked in a few times this autumn. Never really got the big TURNING THE HEATING on thing.

Our heating seems to have two settings - either Arctic or Sub-Saharan. Absolutely nothing in-between, no middle ground.

I tend to err on the side of keeping things cooler and layer up rather than put myself on a slow roast.

Just moved and we get central heating, cooling and hot water from a central system. No idea how it works tbh. Almost put me off moving here because I’ve had really bad experiences with communal heating systems before but realities of moving meant this was the best option.

Good thing so far is hot water is instant so no waiting like with a combo boiler thing. Off topic but weirdly the toilet doesn’t have a cistern to fill just a direct water feed.

A neighbour of mine has the heating on all year - in summer it’s on low but it’s on, the windows in every room are open all year round too because it’s so hot in there otherwise, and the flat already gets all the sun so would be very warm regardless.

Can anyone explain this madness to me? It’s not exactly like her pipes are going to freeze in August.

My mom says she’s got pipes that go into the ground and get heated by the earth’s core. Is she pranking me?

Really hope the next place we move to has a thermostat. Total pain not having one.

My housemate knocks on my bedroom door or shouts me if i’ve left a light on. His rent’s set and the bills have no bearing on what he pays, but the water bill’s gone up by 40% compared to the last guy. Yesterday he put a single towel in the washing machine on a 60° wash.

I’m really sorry but I’m going to have to flag this as it isn’t heating-related.

Sorry, i put a percent sign instead of the degree symbol.

Bit weird when people have the central heating on all night during winter.

I can understand if it’s sub zero temperatures, but in general not normal is it?

Going to get someone out next month to take a look at my flat and tell me how laughably expensive it’ll be to replace my storage heaters with something that’s actually good.

Decent heating and on-demand hot water, that’s the dream.

It’s a disgraceful way to live.

we got some folks around to do this

turned out it was way too expensive

now we’ve decorated the entire flat, put decent underlay down and replaced the front door, it’s actulaly really warm inside so i’m hoping we won’t need it as much as previously

hot water is still a nightmare tho

EVEN WHEN SHE IS AT WORK, GUYS.

Absolutely. Always cracks me up when people give it the…actually, mine comes on at 6am at 21° until 8am, them at 7pm at 19° for an hour and 45 minutes shite, though. Get a life, maaan.

There’s a myth that constantly having heating on a low temperature’s cheaper than turning it in and off. I’ve heard electricians say this. It’s not true.

Peat and coal fire :fire::blush:

Sorry environment :confounded:

Had it on for 30mins a couple of times recently. Mainly for baby related coldness. Wouldn’t have it on if was up to me.

Have it running all night until I go to bed, then an hour before I get up and past the time I leave.

Sometimes if it’s really really cold I will have it on all night.

In the summer we leave our internal doors open, to aid cross ventilation (it keeps the house cooler). In the winter, to reduce draughts, we keep the internal doors pulled to, keeping the house warmer.
