also feel like the kind of anarchism I’ve seen expressed by metal bands and metal fans is a very kind of selfish narcissistic kind of just like I will do whatever I want and aren’t I clever for thinking this kind of thing. Not a compassionate kind of anarchism if such a thing exists, which I doubt it does

What you love is subjective. Putting that aside was said to be being objective.

me too, i mean i know a few classic that my bro plays all the time and my dad is quite a big fan of Kenny G so i am familiar with breathless.

I am very far from muscly. Honestly, I think it’s a catharsis thing, and ridding yourself of demons via a safe channel, ie music. I am an extremely placid and peaceful person, but Ido enjoy listening to the most aggressive and violent banging and shouting. I think this is a good part of why I am generally a very chilled (out entertainer) person.

You’ve recommended two stormers there!

Come on, if you go and see jazz live, there will be at least 4 solos in the first 20-30 mins

I’ve quoted it now too late haha

If it’s not clear, I’m in agreement with you. Even when people are being ‘objective’ they come up with different answers to other people who are being objective. What is that, subjective objectivism?

My favourite jazz album of all time is probably Amnesiac

That Panopticon album I linked to is all about terrible conditions for coal miners in Kentucky and the importance of organising and unions!

Haha I don’t know anymore.
When it’s what we like that should be the only answer :handshake:

Want to do some jazz HGATRs. Who do we think would get over the 50 vote threshold? Miles Davis? Coltrane(s)? Herbie?

good for them, it’s just not what I have experienced with the prominent metal scene that was around here when I was growing up

I wouldn’t consider that showboating. A good solo in jazz takes into account both the tune being played and the other players.

I’ve played and watched a lot of jazz over the years and I’ve never seen anything on the level of Vai/Satriani/Gilbert wankery.

Seem to be lots of Miiles fans on here.

Also a while back I made the effort to listen to 20 of his albums so that would be time well spent.

Davis definitely. Maybe John and Alice. Herbie at a stretch.
