people must have known how silly hats were right?

I am very very pro hat and I worry about any anti-hat stance (although, yes, some hats historically were a bit much, hats in general are very far from being silly - without wearing a hat in winter my poor bald scalp would get cold and in summer its even more important as I am succeptible to skin cancer).

Reduce stigma on hats now! Up with hats!

oh yeah I love them, one of my favourite things about history is looking at the silly hats

ah phew! I thought I’d stick my oar in in case hat-bashing commenced.

seeing serious people with ridiculous hats is comforting as it reminds us that all things are fleeting and our perspective may not be shared by those of the future

hope that guy didn’t make the hat his whole personality

It’s the traditional dress for the people of Volendam, a fishing village north of Amsterdam. There is dairy farming in the area, but it’s not what the village is famous for.
