Hey!
Is anyone into diaries?
I really want to read some every-day, non-celebrity diaries of people just pottering around and getting on with their lives. Any time period…
Any recommendations?
Cheers

Adrian Mole books are the best books ever written
Even the later ones where he’s a chef and gets bullied by a swan are really funny
the later ones are the best ones imho. the last one where he
gets cancer and is cuckolded by his hot wife
is brutal.
Always look to the year-end LRB for Alan Bennett’s diaries but he said last year nothing was happening to him and he was too tired to write stuff down anymore. Which is sad.
Love the diary style as much for the self-delusion or the bitterness or the raging melancholy. Kenneth Williams’ diaries over Alan Clarke MP, for instance.
Ah nice. I was thinking more non-fiction, but I’ll give em a go
Michael Palin’s diaries are great, especially the ones covering 1969-1979 and 1980-1989, lots of stuff about Monty Python and his occasional forays into film and very moving when it comes to Graham Chapman’s death.
Thanks!
