The company has already achieved Putman’s aim of introducing more vinyl into its outlets. Each now stocks 3,000 to 7,000 albums, up from an average of just 500 before.

tbf I’m highly likely to end up buying a record or two if they’re now stocking way more vinyl in all stores

It’s Europe’s biggest Birmingham-based entertainment store, it has to be in Birmingham otherwise it’s just Europe’s biggest entertainment store outside Birmingham

HMV in Guildford is mainly vinyl now, told them they should do that at my interview there in 2007

I actively avoid buying vinyl in HMV. They can kiss my ass at the prices they charge.

oh god they’re gonna put themselves under again with this aren’t they?

whyyyyyyyy?

tbh i’ve found them to be largely the same price as the local indie(an) and occasionally cheaper - there’s occasional bargains like certain records only being £10.99 or whatever (got a Sleater-Kinney record for that price)

Not sure that’s the case here. And I’m still pissed off that they completely stopped selling it when it wasn’t ‘in’ and then jumped back on the bandwagon when it was cool. Yeah I know, that was probably good business sense on their part but still, fuck em

I can’t believe it took them two bankruptcies to take yr advice.

Noticed in the Basildon one earlier they had a sizable new section of graphic novels/comics which really annoyed me is it probably will not be good business for the nice tiny little comic shop tucked away at the top of the shopping centre :frowning:

The massive birmingham one would have made teenage me absolutely empty my body of all conceivable internal matter

Kind of hyped but also semi annoyed since this is cropping up when I’ve decided to get way less physical music (regrettably bc I dont really have so much space for it anymore)

And bc bandcamp > everything

Out of excitement just to clarify

Not out of fear

Anyone who thinks I’m scared can name a derelict car park and I’ll show you how scared I really am

Implying that I’ll fight you

This had somehow passed me by, despite making multiple overnight work trips to Birmingham over the last year.

I’m down for two nights later in the month, might have to go have a nose around.

its kinda cool (big Chewie model, big Rick & Morty Model), but also a bit disappointing. I guess i expected a bit more variety in the records they stock but instead they just have a lot of records. Nice to have a spacious record store to look around mind.

HMV prices are insane though. Only ever brought vinyl in the sale as it’s ludicrous otherwise…but the sale can be good.

The store has always been dead quite though, and its not in an obvious part of town so not convinced how well it will do. Maybe things will improve when the bull ring one shuts.

Hate to be that guy but your time would be better placed looking round Ignite store in Oasis or even Swordfish.

Yeah, the location is why I suspect I’ve not been there.

Ta for the tips, tho. Might check those out if I get a chance.

they’re very variable in my experience. some stuff is expensive but no more than most Local Indies, and then they’ll have certain things going surprisingly cheap.

i’ve noticed the CD prices are starting to go up again though, a lot of stuff going above a tenner, and the 2 for £10 deal is now 2 for £12. this seems to be a cycle they constantly repeat every couple of years and tends to result in me spending far less money in there until the prices eventually inevitably come down a bit again.

I showed my friend it over the weekend, they seem to have kept it fairly on the downlow

Yeah, it’s not quite the cornucopia I’d been expected

That said I got a Robert Wyatt album an a June of 44 EP I hadn’t found elsewhere so that was nice (also Wolf by Tyler but I didnt buy it and someone else had got it the following week)
