I always found it weird how cheap the books they sell are

Like I remember them selling novels for 2 quid that were full price in Waterstones

a water stone is a type of rock found on riverbeds that stories used to be carved into by hand, before the advent of paper

I read that when I was thirteen/fourteen! Would probably get much more out of it now to be fair.

Why didn’t you tell me that, @discobot?

The 2 out of 3 films I’ve seen that they made of them are good enough, but the books are even better.

I used to work in a waterstones that had taken over an ottakars (guildford high street), so there was a bit of tension, like early voyager when the marquis and federation had to join forces. Waterstones was considerably gloomier and serious back then, sometimes you would open cupboards to find photo collages of happier ottakar days. Also had vestiges of ottakars everywhere, remote control life size dalek in the kids section (controlling this was my career highlight) and Captain Haddock looming over the stair case

because it was a shite overpriced dump that people would only go into out of absolute necessity and if it’s missed at all it will only be by people who had any nice local record shops put out of business by huge faceless chain shops in the first place
