Glasgow Byres Road Fopp in trouble again…

Not in trouble again, just went back in on a temp lease, until the landlord gets a proper tenant. All the re-openings are along those lines.

the bar for things to be ā€œiconicā€ is pretty low these days isn’t it?

Will have to check it out next time I’m there for work…

what with increases in streaming and rising city centre rents, I’m surprised it hasn’t gone under!

I’m sure stocking 80,000 CDs will turn out to be a canny business move that will reap dividends in the year of our lord 2019.

(this should’ve been in reply to @guntrip)

why would you put this in Birmingham and not in a good city

80,000 cd’s: all Peaky Blinders Soundtracks and associated bands. All DVDs and BluRay are seasons of Peaky Blinders. All staff must dress like the Peaky Blinders.

The company has already achieved Putman’s aim of introducing more vinyl into its outlets. Each now stocks 3,000 to 7,000 albums, up from an average of just 500 before.

tbf I’m highly likely to end up buying a record or two if they’re now stocking way more vinyl in all stores

It’s Europe’s biggest Birmingham-based entertainment store, it has to be in Birmingham otherwise it’s just Europe’s biggest entertainment store outside Birmingham

HMV in Guildford is mainly vinyl now, told them they should do that at my interview there in 2007

I actively avoid buying vinyl in HMV. They can kiss my ass at the prices they charge.

oh god they’re gonna put themselves under again with this aren’t they?

whyyyyyyyy?

tbh i’ve found them to be largely the same price as the local indie(an) and occasionally cheaper - there’s occasional bargains like certain records only being Ā£10.99 or whatever (got a Sleater-Kinney record for that price)

Not sure that’s the case here. And I’m still pissed off that they completely stopped selling it when it wasn’t ā€˜in’ and then jumped back on the bandwagon when it was cool. Yeah I know, that was probably good business sense on their part but still, fuck em
