what’s the frame made out of? I’d be tempted to use heavy duty staples if it’s wooden.

The frame is wooden but the main body is a wire cage. We want to keep small birds out of it so we can grow fruit bushes in there (I mean, I say “we”) and the cage apertures are currently too big, so we want to chicken wire it.

Chicken wire won’t stop small garden birds.

Your best best is to go for a bird mesh and staple it to the frame, I’d think.

I am assuming that’s not netting that’s made from birds.

Doing gardening for the first time in my life tomorrow.

Need to dog-proof the fences and get rid of some of the bushes and trees in preparation for the next stage of the garden beautification project.

Seems a waste ripping out three fruit trees, but I’ve no idea what they (last owners? Developers?) were thinking by planting three trees in a pretty small garden. Gonna get rid before they start causing problems.

If developers it may well have been to satisfy requirements around no net loss of trees and having to replace any they cut down.

Anyone ever painted kitchen cupboard doors?

Is changing a light fitting something that I can do without being a qualified electrician?

Wall-mounted shelves in a cupboard that will have books on them but the wall might be plasterboard rather than load bearing, wise?

Legally? If you’re just switching fittings it’s fine. It just has to be a “competent person”. I’ve done quite a few in recent years.

If you can find the studs in the wall and secure the shelves to those you’d probably be alright. Wouldn’t recommend books on a shelf just mounted on plasterboard though - sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

This can be done, just need to know what you are doing and use the correct fittings. Walls are surprisingly strong.

I’ve done loads of these recently. Bit time consuming but quite straightforward. Had to go up into the loft 3 times for one of them because there wasn’t enough wiring for me to use.

That could pose problems without having a “loft” to go to…
