Honesty audit re: new lids on drinks

It’s all worth it for that satisfying snap

Thought they were just shit lids that weren’t coming off properly for ages but since finding out they’re supposed to do that I’ve left them on.

Tell you what though, those. Totally transparent milk lids play me for a fool on the regular. ON THE REGULAR, I say, for a fool I am played.

I don’t really understand them as the recycling centres (in greater manchester at least) won’t recycle bottle tops, so doesn’t it just render the whole bottle unrecyclable

Haven’t experienced this yet but imagine I would leave it attached, one less thing to hold. What’s the reason to remove it?

It is fairly new isn’t it? Last year or so?

Because it’s deeply deeply annoying and gets in the way of you drinking the drink, and it’s incredibly difficult and annoying to rescrew on afterwards meaning you’re playing wet bag roulette

The screwtop bit retains lots of juice and then deposits it on your cheek while drinking.

I think that’s a ploy to increase straw sales

Never heard it called-

Thing is, if I have a carton of oat milk and leave it attached, when I recycle I’m putting some plastic in the cardboard bin surely? So I detach it and separate them at the end. With plastic bottles I’ll usually leave it attached.

Annoying the first time, then got used to it, even if it feels a bit futile

Spent most of my life going to football grounds where, if you bought a bottle of cola, they’d take the top off in case you turned it into a missile. It was infuriating and often led to spillages. Glad that those malcolms have been thwarted.

Think I read somewhere that loose plastic lids were one of the main sources of litter on beaches, rivers etc and so reducing that is a genuine good element of it even if does seem a bit stupid.

May have been written by a greenwasher though, idk

Yeah I’m just angry old woman shouting at clouds I know

up until this season they had still been removing them at Brentford, which meant you got a delay while they try and rip it properly off.

policy was ABOLISHED for this season I think

I think they could be better by making the maximum ‘cord’ length a little longer so you could reattach them more easily and keep them away from your face when drinking

  • As long as you recycle both parts it’s fine to rip it off
  • Do not rip it off, enemy of Planet Earth

isn’t it an EU directive that our brave boys had to adopt because loads of the bottles are made in the EU or something?
