Took me a couple of spins to get into Phonetics On and On but itā€™s just so so good! A minimalist pop classic, which I canā€™t stop listening to. Cate Le Bonā€™s fingerprints are all over it, her production tightening up their overall sound. Brilliant album. Will easily vie for AOTY come the end of the year.

Got on board with them for their 90s alt rock shenanigans initially and completely rejected this on first listen. Canā€™t put it down now.

Yeah its prob my aoty so far, the Wednesday record is maybe the only thing that could give it a run for its money atm when its out, although loving Alex Gs record too.

They were class in the Thekla too, although they (understandably) struggled just a touch to keep all the dadadadaing for 2468 in time
Just really endearing stuff isnt it. Im not so fussed on the original album but their new sound is so rich with all everything from Television Persoanlities to K Records bands.

I was very reticent about the change in direction, but it works very well and is a better album for it.

As someone who has only heard and my introduction to Horsegirl was Phonetics On and On, which I love. I am intrigued to hear the earlier album from the comments made here !

Also wasnā€™t sold on the change up entirely, but they were really good at Prima. Didnā€™t do anything wild but those grooves played that tight in the sun just made it click

I like em! And they made a lovely first band of Glastonbury this year. Very well dressed too

Iā€™ve been really enjoying Versions of Modern Performance. A bit more grungy and lo-fi than the latest but not that dissimilar. Interested to hear which direction they head in next.

Yeah, this a good little record. Some of the songs are a bit Florist (with a bit more energy) and then other have a nice Sarah Records vibe to them. especially this one:
