well i had no thoughts on La La Land despite listening a good 3 times over the week
will come back and drop something later this week

weirdly I already feel like i recognise a good handful from WF, despite barely remembering ever listening to it before. Really strong opener too! That’s one of the best in that style that they’ve done imho

this might have something to do with these tracks instantly appealing more to my ears

unlike their previous releases that were mostly recorded at a New Jersey studio, the band’s producer Travis Harrison instead recorded this live to tape in a Brooklyn basement.

Need to get back to the last couple. Welshpool Frillies is
fine. 6/10 overall. Why Won’t You Kiss Me the best song by a long way, classic GBV stomper.

first listen puts it as the best album since Poppy Field for me - incidentally, their last pre-lockdown album

This listening club has certainly boosted GBV in my Last.fm stats! A year ago I’m not sure they even appeared in this table.

they’ve crossed 10,000 plays for me after this year

Listening to Tremblers And Goggles By Rank. My memory was right, this is actually a decent one. Good opener.

I remembered Alex Bell being rubbish but I think it’s cos I always remember the rubbish midsection (the “walking down Alex Bell” bit) but the rest of the song is decent. I downloaded the single of this and Focus on the Flock on Bandcamp when it came out so should listen to that more.

My attention still drifts at times, I don’t love it all, but 10 tracks is unusually nice and concise. Like the outro to the closer.

Not a world changing album but a lot more interesting that Crystal Nun’s Cathedral, has a bit more individual character to it rather than straight up more of the same.

knew you’d like the opener, like a bigger version of Laundry and Lasers from LGETF

No chat while I was off the grid? For shame!

not 100% relevant to the listening club but:

I had a dream last night that I was working at a GBV-themed restaurant called “Let’s Go Eat Factory”, and every dish and drink was named after a GBV song, but in practice this meant there were thousands of options, the menu was dozens of pages long and it was a really stressful experience for staff and customers alike.

Thought I’d listened to it and just already forgotten everything about it, but looking at that track listing I’m not sure I even managed that (was away too most of the week though
)

It’s a good one imho!
