Having a very nice Sunday listening to this on repeat. Feels more complete to me than the others weāve had so far. Huge fan of the guitar in An Earful oā Waxās second half.
found this one somehow less memorable than Devil Between My Toes (struggled to catch my attention when I had it on while working). Still good of course (havenāt dipped below a 7 yet); agree with everyone saying it feels more well-rounded and a like classic gbv, but the pacing doesnāt work for me
Learning to Hunt would have been the best so far imo (and the tracks that made it onto to Suitcase from it are among the best from that too), wonder why they abandoned it
- Yeah
- I already have enough Bob and/or ML in my life
- I donāt know what Music League is, but potentially I guess
Yeah, itās great. Really takes it home. Reminds me of the Replacements or something.
Iād normally jump at the chance, but my time is going to be a bit limited over the next few weeks - itās a great idea though!
In we go with Same Place the Fly Got Smashed
Really behind already, best catch up.

Getting into good stuff too!
already know I prefer SIAN for consistency reasons, but once again this is yet another step to sounding āmoreā GBV - I donāt think those first two tracks would have fit on any other release so far
also wasnāt really prepared for Drinkerās Peace at 9am
Iām enjoying this āenforcedā way of listening to all the GBV albums Iāve never got around to listening to (or never heard of in the case of the last four!)
Still a couple more weeks until we get to one I have actually already heard (Bee Thousand)!
this is the version i hear in my head
āCanāt remember ā¦ there he is! ā¦ what the problem wasā
Catching up this week. So far:
Forever Since Breakfast: Will never listen to this again. Hate the way it sounds and the tunes arenāt there yet.
Devil Between My Toes: Instantly a lot better. Sounds terrible in places, which is perfect! Some actual tunes as well!

Drinkers Peace is an all time classic
in my top 10 GBV, no question
Foolishly didnāt check the āsee who votedā checkbox.
But, anyway, yeah. Was planning on making it open to the public and mentioning on the GBV Fb group too.
Whoever voted āpotentially,ā hereās the ML site: https://app.musicleague.com/
Itās really easy and pretty fun - especially the leagues which are a bit more interesting/suited to your tastes. The DiS league is definitely the best one Iāve done so far - thanks @XenoPariah for bringing it into my life.
Wonāt clog up this thread with it anymore - but will drop a link to the league if/when i get round to setting it up
- Robert Pollard ā lead vocals, guitar
- Jim Pollard ā guitar
- Greg Demos ā bass, guitar (track 10)
- Don Thrasher ā drums
- Tobin Sprout ā guitar (track 13)
Greg Demos arrives! Tobin reappears!
Some of the bass lines are so clearly Demos, even before I checked the personnel
Same Place!
So, yeah, itās one of my favourite GBV albums. Dark and murky but chock full of lofi bangers. The first couple of tracks are so disorientating - but set up such a vibe. Quickly followed by The Hard Way and Drinkerās Peace which are both very vintage GBV sounding - the latter being one of my favourite Pollard songs. Simple. On the verge of being too earnest. But excellent. The record also has some classic surrealism in Ambergris. And i really like Pendulum too. Four chords, very grungy, kind of a sleeper hit. Love the album as a whole, though. I donāt really ever think Iām listening to a concept album when I stick it on, but it definitely works as a complete thing imo.
