I always think of this as their REM album 
A remarkably polished sounding debut, totally at odds to the lo-fi chaos that would soon follow. Jangles aplenty on this, almost a bit Paisley Underground in places.
āThe Other Placeā is the first great GBV song IMO, a gorgeous song to these ears 
Think Bob hated how this turned out which put him off studio recording. Vital to their origin story in a way.
Until it went on streaming the other week Iād only listened to it on youtube once or twice. Always really liked Land of Danger. She Wants to Know only clicked with me when I went back to it after seeing they were doing it live a couple of years ago. Need to listen to the rest a bit more.
