I like the writeup for this release over at the Constant Bleeder fanblog. Think he nails it when he states the record is pleasant but lacking in much character.

Another striking thing about this record: this has got to be, by a very big distance, the most straightforwardly ānormalā set of lyrics Bob has ever penned?
Zero songs about kicking elves or Apollonian bronzefoil on here

This back catalogue looks intimidating, but Iāll give it a go.
Donāt cave to the demands for the obscure stuff though! From experience you accomodate someoneās request at the outset to slot in the Japanese import B Side remixes album, and when it eventually rolls around youāre left talking to yourself for the weekā¦

Really quite liked this, I mean itās not outstanding but Iām a sucker for mid 80s college rock. Kinda nuts that something this solid just gets buried in the tidal wave of the rest of the wider pollard discographyā¦

Looking forward to this; there must be literally hundreds of great GBV songs I havenāt heard yet because of how overwhelming their back catalogue is, so this is a good excuse to put that right. Already enjoying āForever Since Breakfastā which I would never have thought to listen to otherwise.
To that end, might be an idea to poll the top 2 or 3 songs from each release and add them to a rolling playlist (like the Tom Waits listening club)ā¦ although I appreciate that might be a lot of admin, so no worries if not!

Forever Since Breakfast!
Iād never really heard it until I finally got it on CD a few months back as part of the Hardcore UFOs boxset. It is one of the best discs of said boxset. Mostly decent tunes. Some real highlights (Land Of Danger is a good opener and I really like She Wants To Know - itās a legitimate hit!). Especially if, as has been pointed out, you dig 80s REM and the more jangly end of college rock. Also has that kind of Byrds-y guitar and harmonising going on (in a more rudimentary way) and that Robyn Hitchcock-y surreal love songs type lyrics. Obviously, we know GBV wouldnāt stick to this vibe. The path was much more unpredictable than what you might expect after hearing this. But itās a great little record!
