Yeah, it has the diversity of sounds and ideas like Mag Earwhig but a more cohesive production.

yeah all integrated in the same tracks, not just loud song into solo acoustic song

Just remembered that Universal Truths & Cycles had a ten song overspill EP released shortly afterwards, called ā€œPipe Dreams of Instant Prince Whippetā€. These were mostly outtakes from the UTC sessions plus a few 7" b-sides from that era as well.

Iā€™d love to be able to recommend it but, in time-honoured GBV EP fashion, there are only really a couple of worthwhile tracks IMO, namely ā€œVisit This Placeā€ and ā€œDig Through My Windowā€.

Personal leaderboard time!

Really enjoyed UT&C. The great thing about GBV listening club is that it gives certain albums their own space to really shine, and UT&C really benefited from that this week :+1:

  1. Bee Thousand
  2. Under The Bushes Under The Stars
  3. Propeller
  4. Alien Lanes
  5. Isolation Drills
  6. Universal Truths & Cycles
  7. Do The Collapse
  8. Vampire on Titus
  9. Mag Earwhig!
  10. Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia
  11. Same Place the Fly Got Smashed
  12. Devil Between My Toes
  13. Forever Since Breakfast
  14. Sandbox

Was meaning to revisit that EP this week and forgot. Will do so later but I notice I have previously put a Spotify heart next to Visit This Place, the title track and Beg for a Wheelbarrow

Too long

Mum is back in the game

Listening to Mag Earwhig, love I am a tree. Itā€™s a good album but a bit mixed, could have done with fewer tracks.

Zap my nomination for a most beautiful Bob song. Also so pleased with myself as I recognised Everywhere with helicopter from the intro

Loving Wrecking Now. Do the collapse is a good album, feels quite consistent

Liking Chasing Heather crazy, his voice sounds great. Enemy is so Syd Barrett

i think the last third-ish is a bit weaker, love the entire thing up to and including Wings of Thorn. Still gone for an 8 though, maybe recency bias but getting so much from an album Iā€™d previously dismissed was a nice bonus

Didnā€™t vote for ā€œChristian Animation Torch Carriersā€ because Iā€™m pretty sure everyone else will vote for it anyway, hopefully. Leant a vote to ā€œEureka Signsā€ instead, because I adore that song.

you just voted for the much more popular Helicopter instead

These next three albums are where Iā€™m expecting to differ the most from the general consensus on here, especially after this week :grimacing:

now letā€™s see if they can stick the landing with EARTHQUAKE GLUE

spoilers - I love this album

About to give it my first listen. Best of Jill Hives is in my
Top 10 for sure and My Kind of Soldier is a banger

Iā€™ve seen some people say that this is their fave GBV album, which just baffles me.

Was torn between this and Storm Vibrations but the latter takes it

Eureka Signs is great too though, all 3 are the ā€˜big and powerful onesā€™ in my head
