If you did want to do it ārightā hereās the order itās supposed to be - actually just moving Zero Elasticity (/Record Level Love) up to track 9 shifts everything else into the correct place too
Titles will still be fucked tho

Cheers, Iāll probably just live with it until my CD arrives and then get confused all over again!
Ahaha. Fire didnāt have great QC around then. Fairly sure the inner to English Little League is meant to have print/lyrics on both sides but one side is completely blank. Iāve got a Mission of Burma record from that time without a centre label. Wouldnāt surprise me that the fact Class Clown isnāt on streaming is just cos they forgot about renewing it.
I only have the CD but they only include lyrics to one track - āObligitory Indecipherable Lyric to Burning Glassā (pretty sure thatās by design!)
Oh right. Just looked on Discogs and seems to be the same too. It feels really weird though, to have a higher quality inner specific to the record and just print one side of it.
That is odd, on the CD itās just printed in the gatefold so it looks fine and then the art from the back cover but without the text is on the opposite part of the gatefold, maybe that was supposed to be on the other side of the vinyl inner
So this is pretty great! I did listen to ELL twice and it left no impression, but this is fun, varied, full of life. Maybe itās just because itās brand new to my ears, but honestly putting this up in the same level as Class Clown and Bears for Lunch, a few standouts and then lots of little earworms scattered through that catch you at different times. Got great production too, punchy but messy, some fun lofi experiments but nothing too unlistenable or equally nothing too shiny and clean
Feel like they nailed the song lengths too, a few get to stretch their legs but mostly all short enough to feel like āclassicā GBV without being so short as to pass by without noticing (which I felt happened to some stuff on CC). We actually get more than one verse one chorus!
Littlest League and Until Next Time is a strong opener, fun little anthem and odd ballad with wonky piano segueing together perfectly. Very like Bob to introduce a lovely new riff in the last 10 seconds of a track
Writerās Bloc sounds like Boston Spaceships, I actually like this quite a bit. Good driving repetitive riff to it, has a bit of the caveman God Loves Us energy which Iām so keen on. Child Activist isnāt much on its own, but fits well as the next track, giving us a heavier section. Then straight into Planet Score which is a perfect GBV reunion anthem really, could easily have slipped onto UTBUTS, with Bob in fine voice too
Fun messy psych guitars on Jupiter Spin, again Tobin pushing out of his more standard jangle sweetness ā reminiscent of Spiderfighter on Factory maybe? Record Level Love is gorgeous too, such a sweet chorus.
Then I Am Columbus which with that monster bass, one of the best riffs theyāve put to tape honestly. One of the more interest unique reunion tracks, couldnāt see them making this at any time in the past but it has the feel of something classic. Zero Elasticity is almost annoying but think it wins me around in the end, strutting 70s rawk
Shine into Vote for Me Dummy is the best pairing on here, and honestly maybe the best 1-2 in the entire reunion so far? Absolutely love Shine - Tobin channelling Moonflower Plastic in the best way, that lovely spacey outro solo, and then crashing straight into Vote for Me Dummy which is painfully catchy. āLife will be a piece of caaaaakeā has been stuck in my head all week. Next Tobin track is grand too, more stately but still builds to vintage jangle fuzz
Then Alex and the Omegas obviously a great closer, foot stomping anthem
Not really any skippers compared to other recent albums, but Go Without Packing and A Bird with No Name come closest. Could bump them and get an even trimmer 35 min album, but really this feels pretty compact and well judged as is! Maybe my second fav discovery of the club so far, along with reassessing UT&C
My hot take for the day: Motivational Jumpsuit is better than either Half Smiles or Earthquake Glue.
anyone know why ELL is their 19th album on Wiki, but Motivational Jumpsuit is the 21st?
probably Tonics and Twisted Chasers being weird as usual
English Little League - every song is twice as long as it should be. Could basically leave it there tbh
really not that inspiring! the sound of a band running on fumes, weird they managed to make MJ so much livelier right after this
wooft, rough. Think Send to Celeste and Flunky Minnows are all Iād save from this, and doubt either would even make my top ā¦ 20 reunion tracks.
Congrats ELL, could be the worst full GBV album yet! Only Sandbox is in contention, and Everyday, Trap Soul Door and Long Distance Man are comfortably better than anything on here
Time for the Jaggy P personal leaderboard, methinksā¦
quite unsure of a lot of it but hereās something! the whole 8-16 range could move about a lot
I let out more than one Ooff when reading that list lol
Fascinating how some of us hear completely different things on a handful of these albums. Thank you for sharing!
Updated personal leaderboard:
Iām probably being a bit generous with my placement of Motivational Jumpsuit, but I ended up enjoying it quite a lot more than I expected to this past week.
MOTIVATED to do some polls now for MJ
hopefully we donāt get track vote confusion given the fuckery with the Spotify song names
Twelve votes for nine different songs already
