Wow! This is a really interesting ranking! Class Clown absolutely rocking it. Earthquake and Same Place should absolutely be higher though!

Side by side with the top 10 on RYMā€¦

Self-Inflicted is the one that stands out to me, one of their most consistent albums of all

will do another final version i think when weā€™re all finished - about 2/3s of the way there!

(only joking btw, Iā€™m really enjoying revisiting all these albums!)

August By Cake end up right in the middle of the table. A very good, enjoyable album but the comparative lack of ā€œhitsā€ pushes it down the list slightly:

  1. Bee Thousand
  2. Under The Bushes Under The Stars
  3. Propeller
  4. Alien Lanes
  5. Isolation Drills
  6. The Bears for Lunch
  7. Class Clown Spots a UFO
  8. Universal Truths & Cycles
  9. Do The Collapse
  10. Vampire on Titus
  11. Mag Earwhig!
  12. August By Cake
  13. Please Be Honest
  14. Motivational Jumpsuit
  15. Half Smiles of the Decomposed
  16. Earthquake Glue
  17. Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia
  18. Cool Planet
  19. Same Place the Fly Got Smashed
  20. Devil Between My Toes
  21. English Little League
  22. Letā€™s Go Eat The Factory
  23. Forever Since Breakfast
  24. Sandbox

Another listen through has dropped it down very slightly (that disc 3 section is a bit rough) but still a big fan of this - very few lows and plenty of fun odd tracks, that stand out even in their epic discography

Knocking right on the top 5 for me, and unless I fall surprisingly in love with some of the upcoming stuff then itā€™ll be the standout reunion album too

Certainly a bottom half album for me; fun to think & know things about, but little to really pull me in musically. Length didnā€™t particularly bother me though, just couldnā€™t really get into it (because weā€™ve got to have at least one naysayer!)

Way to scare a guy huh?

Got a bit stuck on Half Smiles Of The Decomposed over the last few weeks. Iā€™ve played it a lot. As Iā€™m listening I think itā€™s one of my favourites, but as ever thereā€™s so much going on in a GBV song, never mind an album that Iā€™m struggling to remember much of anything about it between plays. As such Iā€™ve not let myself move on until it sinks on and probably overthinking it all!

I think Everyone Thinks Iā€™m A Raincloud , Girls of Wild Strawberries, Closets of Henry, Winston Churchill, Huffman Prairie might be among my standouts from it currently.

gonna come back with the final ABC summary later, but in the meantime itā€™s time to look to the heavens with HOW DO YOU SPELL HEAVEN

another Iā€™m not sure I ever listened to

Weird to think this album was going to be called ā€œIs Bookshelf One Word?ā€ (i.e. the next line in the lyrics) up until quite late on.

Heaven is defintely one of my personal faves from the current lineup, in fact I wouldnā€™t be totally surprised if it ends up as my highest-ranked album from this period overall, with maybe Poppyfield being its main challenger. I think it tends to get unfairly overshadowed by the albums immediately either side of it in their discography, especially Space Gun.

Thinking about it, I wouldnā€™t be surprised if the four month gap between Cake and Heaven is the shortest ever between GBV albums?
