Wow! This is a really interesting ranking! Class Clown absolutely rocking it. Earthquake and Same Place should absolutely be higher though!
Self-Inflicted is the one that stands out to me, one of their most consistent albums of all
will do another final version i think when weāre all finished - about 2/3s of the way there!
(only joking btw, Iām really enjoying revisiting all these albums!)
August By Cake end up right in the middle of the table. A very good, enjoyable album but the comparative lack of āhitsā pushes it down the list slightly:

- Under The Bushes Under The Stars
- Propeller

- Isolation Drills
- The Bears for Lunch
- Class Clown Spots a UFO
- Universal Truths & Cycles
- Do The Collapse
- Vampire on Titus
- Mag Earwhig!
- August By Cake
- Please Be Honest
- Motivational Jumpsuit
- Half Smiles of the Decomposed
- Earthquake Glue
- Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia
- Cool Planet
- Same Place the Fly Got Smashed
- Devil Between My Toes
- English Little League
- Letās Go Eat The Factory
- Forever Since Breakfast
- Sandbox
Another listen through has dropped it down very slightly (that disc 3 section is a bit rough) but still a big fan of this - very few lows and plenty of fun odd tracks, that stand out even in their epic discography
Knocking right on the top 5 for me, and unless I fall surprisingly in love with some of the upcoming stuff then itāll be the standout reunion album too
time to vote on the mammoth cake-fest!

Certainly a bottom half album for me; fun to think & know things about, but little to really pull me in musically. Length didnāt particularly bother me though, just couldnāt really get into it (because weāve got to have at least one naysayer!)
Way to scare a guy huh?
Got a bit stuck on Half Smiles Of The Decomposed over the last few weeks. Iāve played it a lot. As Iām listening I think itās one of my favourites, but as ever thereās so much going on in a GBV song, never mind an album that Iām struggling to remember much of anything about it between plays. As such Iāve not let myself move on until it sinks on and probably overthinking it all!
I think Everyone Thinks Iām A Raincloud , Girls of Wild Strawberries, Closets of Henry, Winston Churchill, Huffman Prairie might be among my standouts from it currently.
gonna come back with the final ABC summary later, but in the meantime itās time to look to the heavens with HOW DO YOU SPELL HEAVEN
another Iām not sure I ever listened to
Weird to think this album was going to be called āIs Bookshelf One Word?ā (i.e. the next line in the lyrics) up until quite late on.
Heaven is defintely one of my personal faves from the current lineup, in fact I wouldnāt be totally surprised if it ends up as my highest-ranked album from this period overall, with maybe Poppyfield being its main challenger. I think it tends to get unfairly overshadowed by the albums immediately either side of it in their discography, especially Space Gun.
Thinking about it, I wouldnāt be surprised if the four month gap between Cake and Heaven is the shortest ever between GBV albums?
