This is going way off topic but Curfew the short film he won the Oscar for is actually pretty great. Strangely the BBC show Uncle have been accused of ripping it off (the opening scenes/premise are very similar).

He made a feature length version of Curfew called Before I Disappear which is great too.

Uncanny, I went for a drive on Sunday and put this on for the first time in years, then stumble across this thread.

It was a great album which hasn’t aged badly at all.

I really really struggle to stay interested in anything they did after that album though

Woah he wrote that shit Abduction which didnt feature abduction too

Yes in full agreement. Start to end bangers.

This was my opinion, and then i rewatched it and it not only did it seem to make more sense than before, but i found it very enjoyable to watch. Its great.

Sure does piss some folks off though!

Maybe it’s just me being a teenager when Donnie Darko came out but I have a real affection for Richard Kelly. The guy was so young when he made it and I think everyone just had it in for him ever since - I vaguely remember watching The Box when it came out, which I guess effectively ended his career, which seems harsh but again was all sort of built around the whole ‘look what the Donnie Darko guy has done now!’ narrative…

sorry this isn’t really about Hot Fuss anymore. My favourite Killers song is maybe Bling (Confessions of a King), despite the fucking awful title.

I like The Box as well. Hope he gets to make some more films :+1:

Southland Tales ended his career (which is a bit harsh, lots of people have misfires with their second film), I don’t think anyone noticed The Box when it came out. Still, if Shyamalan can make a comeback, anyone can.

Some say even Donnie Darko was a fluke in that (according to the DVD commentary) he intended to make a totally different film altogether and accidentally made a cult classic.
