Used to be extremely cynical, maybe a 9/10 - think it was an unavoidable consequence of not great mental health tbh tbf.

These days I’m a total Pollyanna, maybe a 2/10. Apparently this can be quite annoying

all sides of the same coin/reflections of suffering so I think it counts even if it’s coming from a different place

I’m still waiting for a number from you both

I don’t see that as a distinct type from the second.

Being in command of facts will often make someone cynical.

Hm. I don’t think I’m cynical at all, just realistic.

So, 0.

Paying the price eh

depends entirely on the context. I’m naturally an optimist, but I’m in my mid-30s now so life has beaten some of that out of me. I do tend to enter most situations expecting the best, unless I’ve prior experience to suggest otherwise.

however, I feel like most people who know me would probably describe me as cynical. And two of the friends I see and speak to the most are also two of the most cynical people I’ve met in my life, and their influence on my is undeniable. @elthamsmateowen is probably better-placed to judge.

One of my best mates has a huge problem with what he sees as our cynicism because he thinks it makes us closed off to new experiences, but personally I think he was getting “cynical” and “Not wanting to go to a ballroom dancing class on a stag do” mixed up. I mean, I went on a hen do and participated in a fucking pole dancing class.

Cynicism isn’t wisdom, it’s a lazy way to say that you’ve been burned.

It seems, if anything, you’d be less certain after everything you ever learned.

not sure it’s laziness and not just an unconscious reaction to trauma

Exactly, don’t think you can accuse someone of being lazy for not confronting all situations whole heartedly if they’re not emotionally ready to (or at least not ready to experience a set back)

like even when marckee talks about political ignorance for example, very often it’s because people aren’t educated enough or feel too stupid to get involved or yadda yadda complex socioeconomic factors

it’s why I’m so down about films
I know they could be good

But none of them are good Ruffdawg. NONE OF THEM. (Except John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’.)

certainly like such a small grain of them as to make them obsolete

Sorry I was just quoting this song :frowning:

Fluctuate between extremes, all or nothing

think i’m a stupid naive puppy really
tend to assume everyone’s nice based on them not being openly horrible to me
