How do you feel about going for groupon/voucher based meal dinners?

I feel fine about it. Last year we went to three places in a fortnight because of this:

http://www.norfolkrestaurantweek.co.uk/

£15/£20 for a 2/3 course meal at dozens of nice places to eat. Perfect.

I want to go here

have you been here?

Yes. It’s bloody lovely. Have you heard of it previously?

Someone at work mentioned it as they went to taste loads of gin and they know I like gin.

I just wanna stay there and have a bath

It’s about ten miles down the road from me. There’s a nice walk that Mrs CCB and I have done a couple of times, which starts on the Norfolk coast, works its way inland and has the Gin Trap as the halfway point.

North Norfolk is lovely for a quiet weekend

Looks like PickledOeuf was responsible for the website though:

i never do this this, really hate being a voucher wanker.

Voucher as an acceptable gift:

  • A thoughtful gesture, up there with a present you’ve actually thought about giving
  • If you really don’t know them that well, just buy them a drink/send them money

my dad bought me an itunes voucher once. sigh

Depends on the voucher

at least we can all agree that ‘wowcher’ is a really annoying phrase and their advertising is annoying also

I just don’t understand why you’d want to constrict what business someone spends their cash in, even if they go somewhere a lot.

I think I’ve said this before, but I quite like receiving vouchers. For quite a while (especially when the girls were really young) we had barely any disposable income and I remember using birthday money from my dad to buy stuff like clothing for work. At least if I received a gift voucher, I felt obligated to buy something that felt like a gift, rather than a necessity.

Cause if I get cash it’s gunna go on beer and tabs. A voucher for a shop that specialises in something I’m interested is gunna get spent on a significant item I use and want and will enjoy and be thankful for

But beer and tabs

Shpock > Wowcher

I thought it was the touring?

are you saying better or more annoying?

Oh more annoying for sure. The song in their advert is hellish.

Depends on the deal, but often you get a set menu or limited options and they’re really keen to get you have add-ons in order to up their margins. I don’t find you get treated badly, but there’s a kind of implied eye-roll when everyone in the restaurant has a voucher and doesn’t want to spend a penny more. Like when you ask for tap water rather than bottled.
