How about using a screw, a screwdriver and a finally a pair of pliers?

We had this situation in a hotel in Switzerland last year.

Solution?

Andy pushed the cork in with a screwdriver.

Result?

Cork gave way suddenly and quickly. Red wine all over the white bedroom walls.

Solution?

Andy cleaned the walls with toothpaste (?)

Result?

Red wine stains now glowing green for some reason.

Highlight of my year, probably.

Did that once at a party. Didn’t work.

Then got home and my key didn’t go in the lock because I’d bent it out of shape in the process. Great times.

Lad who worked in the hotel disappeared with it and came back with it done. Said he used the shoe method but then the cork was inside the bottle so not sure.

Done the ‘push the cork in’ method on numerous occasions. And, to avoid the need for Andy and his toothpaste, you need to push the cork in veeeeeeeerrry slowly…
