Hated olives my entire life until about 5 years ago in Spain I ordered a beer and they gave me olives and they were delicious and now I love olives.

I struggled with olives my whole life til a Greek-American friend of mine told me about how her Grandfather called black olives ‘Nature’s Dark Chocolates’ and subsequently the next time I tried black olives I sought out that flavour note and lo and behold, it was fucking right there. Salt + chocolate is a magic combination, so after a while it all fell into place and now I love black olives. Have to be pretty basic black olives, though. The fancy ones taste weird. Kalamata especially, those purple motherfuckers taste like horse.

Can’t do green olives for the life of me. They taste like old lawnmowers; engine oil and dirty old grass clippings.
