loved Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite - I suck at FPS games so tend not to like them, but Rapture and Columbia are great settings and I really enjoyed playing through them.

I did play Bioshock 2 but for some reason I didn’t get on with it, got a short way in and then stopped. maybe I had another game I wanted to play more, or got it fairly soon after Bioshock? not sure but haven’t rated it as I don’t think it’d be fair to do so. hear it’s quite good though.

I love em. The first and infinite especially though I do think Infinite could’ve done with approx 50% less combat and that final boss battle was fucking DIRE but the setting and story more than make up for that. Bioshock may have lost some of it’s wow factor over the years but it’s still a damn fine game with fantastic pacing, the remaster helps the ageing process a slight bit to with some minor QOL tweaks and slightly shinier graphics. BioShock 2 was a good game but you could tell it was rushed out the door however the DLC ‘Minvera’s Den’ is fantastic.

Well now, boy do I have opinions about this… In first play through I would have said that these games were the finest I have ever played but in replaying them the main campaign of bioshock infinite didn’t really stand up. The fact that Elizabeth would give you free ammo meant that you could just hang onto the same two over powered guns for the majority of the campaign and it made the combat just a bit of busy work to get done before the next bit of exploration.

However, rapture is the best realised and most fun to explore game environment ever and when you eventually get back there in the infinite dlc it makes for some of my favourite moments in gaming.

Oh and what surprised me on replaying is how well bioshock 2 stands up. It’s got a reputation for being the runt of the litter but it’s still fab and has the best combat of the lot. The dlc is one of the best missions in the whole thing too.

Solid fives across the board from me.

If you’ve come to this thread to rain on the games, would you kindly shut up?

It’s a shame you’ll never get to play Minvera’s Den as that campaign DLC is among the high points of the entire series

I would never play Bio 1 and 2 remotely close to back to back ,the games are too similar.

When the remaster came out I enjoyed playing 2 more than 1, not cos its a better game but because I kind of know 1 off by heart so it had no surprises for me and 2 did, especially the dl which blew me away.

Got to be honest, I didn’t really see what the fuss was about with Infinite

I think it was a case of hype meeting an aesthetic that did nothing for me and kept me at arms length in terms of being able to fully immerse myself.

Oh if you didnt like the Aesthetic then the game is pretty thread bare since I dont think anyone was there for the combat

Only played Bioshock. Loved the world. Loved the storytelling. Found the combat/gunplay shite.

Bioshock 1 is one of my top top games. Maybe top 10, definitely top 20. It’s so easy to forget now the impact it had on a first playthrough. As @xylo said the opening is exceptionally well crafted, the (good) ending made me cry and the delivery of the midway hammer drop is just insanely good. Few pieces of media have made me look back and question every single thing I’ve seen up to that point the way Bioshock did. Rapture is beautiful, the political commentary is biting and the game’s got such a sense of horror as well. Two moments stand out: finding the shotgun and your first encounter with the Houdini splicer. The characters are fantastic too, especially Steinman and Sander Cohen. My only real criticism of the game is that after the big high in the middle it drags on too long. They really should have cut the Apollo Heights level and gone straight to the Little Sister Orphanage.

Bioshock 2 is also a very fun shooter but it lacks the big moments so it’s just a very fun shooter. Haven’t played Infinite yet but looking forward to it.

Weirdly enough I did actually finish it without properly investing in the narrative which is very rare for me so there was obviously enough in the gameplay mechanics for me to enjoy

:thinking:ur a strange person ant

But thats why we like you!

Yeah, that was a big disappointment to me as well

The opening of Infinite is incredible as well!

Two wonderful games and one good one. The first is peerless and genuinely unsettling (Sandor Cohen in particular: The Wild Bunny, by Sander Cohen. I want to take the ears off, but I can’t. I hop, and when I hop, I never get off the ground. It’s my curse, my eternal curse. I want to take the ears off, but I can’t! It’s my curse, it’s my fucking curse! I want to take the ears off! Please! Take them off! Pleeeeeeease!)

Two is a decent rehash of the first.

Infinite had an astonishing setting and a genuinely brilliant story. The gunplay had became a little stale but it’s more than made up for it everything else. The scene where you rescue Elizabeth from the Songbird is a remarkable setpiece.

Yeah…I like them.
