Who you rolling with in your party Ant?

Cloud, Tifa, Nanaki

Cloud - Attacking
Tifa - Attacking
Nanaki - Hanging back, curing, generally being a helpful guy

Solid party, and using Red’s real name. Lovely to see such respect for the All Time Dog.

The only renames I ever do are Red XIII to Nanaki and Cait Sith to “DICKHEAD”

(Sometimes I do Aerith as well if I’m feeling particularly twatty)

I do remember something about looking into a chamber or something and the screen going white? Wasn’t sure if I just knew the word Jenova from the soundtrack though (I listen to it at work sometimes, fucking top tunes).

Finished the Niebelheim bit (intense!), now I’ve managed to catch a Chocobo and am heading to the Mythril Mines.

Finding it very hard to resist using the Switch “cheats” though. Turning on no encounters when I’m a bit lost… giving myself a health boost after a few battles… I’ve held off on the whole but have slipped a couple of times. Feel kind of bad about it, but I’m a grown man with a wife and child and job and shit to do, I just want to play through the story (which I’m enjoying)! But I know I’m only cheating myself :anguished:

@anon5266188 Please assuage my guilt

You’re a monster.

(The no-random battles thing is pretty hard to resist tbf, just always remember your forefathers and their struggles without it)

The thing is, I still obvs need to level up the squad, so I’ll go back and get into battles, it just gives me anxiety being lost and constantly pummelled.

There’s a few areas that are just brill for grinding that I always just head to for that. I always, always do a kind of “get ahead of yourself early” technique as well and spend 20 minutes or so before doing anything else in that opening section just levelling up a bit to be a tad overpowered throughout.

bad guy, his mum, ancient magic, something something

This game keeps throwing twists at me! After the guy at the bar in Kalm was all like “I can’t work in the mines no more, it’s full of monsters”, I was fully expecting a sidequest where I’d clear the dungeon and help him out, but instead you just pop out the other side barely having done anything, now I’m in an area with a little fishing town (Junon?) where there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do, and a this other place (Fort Condor?) where it seems I’m being invited to play what sounds like an incredibly complicated minigame (some sort of RTS?). Yikes. Going to grind for a bit and get some cash and exp, then have a crack at this fort thing, seems to be the only thing I can do.

Mild spoiler but there’s almost certainly a path in Junon you’ve missed. You probably know this but if you press select, arrows pop up to show you all the exits from that screen.

Bloody love that this is the case. You encounter an NPC, have a wee chat with them, find out a tiny bit of world colouring and you move on. Hate that in modern games I’d have to do something to help the prick out.

I sort of assumed there was, it felt weird being funnelled to the Condor thing, not sure how I missed it though. Will have another look, thought it was strange being a dead end.

It’s kinda hiding in plain sight, a lot of people miss it

I will give you £130 if you manage to correctly predict what happens next…

I peeked at a walkthrough to see where the exit may be, sounds wild!

General question: I’ve just has Cloud, Tifa and Aeris in my party to date, should I be swapping people in and out to level them up more evenly?

Yeah, if you can it will definitely be beneficial. I never really bother with Barrett but it’s worth keeping everyone levelled up. There are different points in the game where you’re forced into certain team selections and it really fucks you up if you’ve got someone way under-levelled and are forced to pick them.
