Funkhouser’s not fucking around!

Glad the Adele thread is out of the way… much prefer the threads where everyone is gushing about great the artist is. Feels more life-affirming and less like a pile-on.

(not that I didn’t participate in the pile-on - just less fun giving stuff a kicking)

Honestly think that’s a decent score - thought we’d have had a fair few 1.somethings in these threads tbh.

It’s nice that generally the positives are being highlighted e.g. here lots of people saying she has a great voice even if not much of the material matches up to it.

Definitely think the currently massively popular acts like Adele & Sheeran would do better in 10 years when people vote more with nostalgia of hearing the radio/what their parents played/first albums etc.

People who like Adele’s voice - what sort of material do you think would better highlight her talents?

(It’s an interesting question, actually, and I’m not sure what I think. A big voice like that will override most of the music it’s paired with. I think I’d quite like to hear her singing with some dark downtempo electronic influenced stuff, something like the Gutter Twins album. Or a duet record with Mark Lanegan!)

i said upthread, a more motown sort of thing like rolling in the deep and rumour has it. if she could just knock the boring generic piano ballads on the head she’d be brilliant fun

Whitney did that album where they tried to rein in the vocals a bit didn’t she? Might have been with Timbaland?

I think I’d just like artists who have more money than they could ever spend do something artistically interesting but I guess maybe she likes what she does.

Yeah that’s the obvious thing isn’t it although I still think the vocals are way too showboating but can see the potential.

Don’t know who wrote or produced those songs you mentioned but they remind me of Mark Ronson’s stuff in that they feel like a meticulously precision engineered facsimile of the songs they are trying to emulate so end up just feeling souless.

nah i think mark ronsons good. just think he’d prob do some amy winehouse castoffs for her so it prob still wouldnt work
