Sorry everyone for making this the Pearl Jam HGATR.

The pearl jam fans

scott stapp tries his hardest to be eddie vedder but it is a miserable imitation!

They’re not though. Stapp does a decent surface Vedder impression but it’s a dumb, macho, chest thumping parody. In this TED talk I will

it’s a stupid but perfectly acceptable shorthand for rock music made in seattle in the late 80s/90s, that is my (correct) opinion

It’s kind of HGATR tradition for the topic to change to another band as it nears to a close. It’s always surprising which band comes up instead though

Ash and Creed have a lot of similarities TBF.

[frantically searching which bands ruffers has rated highly] elliott smith and crazy town are actually indistinguishable

The main difference is that pearl jam exist.

I think if I had that hyper gruff voice of a pearl jam etc I’d be too self conscious to sing in it.

Puddle of Mudd 10 years to early?

(actually like Pearl Jam, just trying to think of the most offensive-but-watertight comparison possible)

Swing and a miss I’m afraid. Puddle of Mudd wanted very dearly to be the new Nirvana.

Remember when they tried to make nu-grunge a thing when nu-metal was on its arse? Dark, dark days.

I don’t see the difference

I’ll give Pearl Jam this, they’re not as aggressively bad as Alice in Chains

I also like Alice in Chains a lot too…

It’s very much there. Vedder was a sensitive soft lad who pulled Pearl Jam away from the cock rock influences that the rest of the band had, Scott Stapp was an angry macho dude with a messiah complex who got heavily into meth. And it’s all there in their vocals.

Source: my dad getting heavily into Creed and playing their albums fucking incessantly at me for years.

Just listened to Creed’s most popular songs on Spotify (I actually recognised one of the songs). Some superficial similarity in the vocals but the music is quite different. Sounds more like, oh I dunno, Alice in Chains or something or Stone Temple Pilots (when they’re not sounding like Pearl Jam). Maybe a bit of Live thrown in as well. Live, now there’s a band.
