There’s never going to be a time in my life where I think “You know who I need to get into? Billy Joel”

Loved Billy Joel when I was 12. Billy Joel, U2, The Cure. Chewed up tapes on my whatever Panasonic called their version of the Walkman, riding my bike, dreaming of running away from home and a future that had a girlfriend in it. Feel pretty bad for that little bugger looking back, but it probably wasn’t Billy’s fault.

Just giving this a morning bump.

Turns out no matter how hard I try I simply cannot muster any emotion towards the recording artist known as Billy Joel. I have no opinion. I am opinionless. Poll needs a shrug emoji.

think that’s what a 3/5 is for

The intro to uptown Girl brings me out in hives. I am indifferent to the rest of his work.

3 because I’m feeling guilty about giving the Spice Girls such a kicking.

I’m not sure I’m even willing to commit to that

The Innocent Man album on cassette was a staple on car journeys as a kid. Never stopped enjoying Tell Her About It, though I accept it might be objectively turd. Gone for a 4 as there’s probably a bit too much guff in his catalogue to be an all timer. When I was about 10 I thought this was coolest thing ever:

It seems you may have needed to have been indoctrinated by parents when younger to still rate him.
My parents didnt listen to him and even as an impressionable child I never liked more than one or two tracks. I stuck on his Essential Collection this morning and it’s as bland to me as I remember.
He’s not even got a Spice World film to bump him up a point.
A yawning 1/5.

The Stranger’s a decent LP. Plenty of enjoyable singles.

Overall the man’s the very definition of 3/5.

Hey @anon19035908

You’ve obviously (maybe not though) got a list of bands that will be on future HGATR threads…how many are still to come?

Still got a good few weeks worth on the list and I add one more every time we do a thread so we’re all set for a while. All suggestions welcome though!

I like that he just plays Madison Square Garden once a month because it’s local, and says he’ll continue until the tickets stop selling.

In my very early teens, before I properly started getting into bands and stuff, there was like a 12 month period where I was really into random chart songs. First album I ever owned was Now 25 on cassette and I mainly bought it because River of Dreams and Freddie’s Living On My Own were on it. Still get giddy with nostalgia whenever I hear IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NI-IIIIIGHT…

Nina Simone and Johnny Cash? Maybe Scott Walker/Walker Brothers too.
