Oh for sure, I agree with you on this. I think what I was trying to say was that she was an important figure within a certain genre/type of music and certainly for the punk scene and arguably paved the way for people like Ari Up, Poly Styrene and Pauline Black to become part of that movement. It was these women I had in mind really rather than the other examples and I probably should have said that in my post.
I think your last point is right to some extent, there are exceptions, but certainly there was and is a lot of bias towards female fronted bands with an ‘attractive’ singer. Blondie certainly were/are a part of that.
