more good songs than anyone ever

It’s hugely outweighed by just how good the good stuff is, and there’s a lot of good stuff.

The whole argument regarding his voice is funny to me. Obviously, fans of his (like me) just think of it as (Billy Corgan)'s voice and that’s it, however, people who aren’t overly familiar with him seem to find his voice the most objectionable voice they have ever heard and immediately start doing awful impressions of him. I think he is a great singer.

Obviously a five. More than any other artist or public figure that’s aged in the public eye, find listening to his early stuff or seeing old footage of him when he was first starting out really weirdly sad. Hard to explain, just that general melancholic feeling of ageing and how much of an important figure and force of nature he was as a young man. His death will hit me like a sledgehammer.

One of the most distinctive voices ever, and he’s the best ‘brilliant singer who can’t sing’. Give a technically proficient singer this material and it loses its lustre. There is just so much personality across his work.

I don’t know enough of Bob Dylan’s stuff to rate him fairly. Whether it’s his fault or not, he’s the ultimate “bands today don’t write about anything meaningful” go-to for aging dads who basically need a chorus of “war is bad” for a song to register as about something.

My dad loves Bob Dylan.Think he’s seen him live about 50 times or something. At the drop of a hat he likes to recite the story about the time he met him at Rhoose airport in Cardiff and they had a coffee and a chat.

My uncle - a proper Dylan obsessive - was also there but waiting in the wrong part of the airport and missed him. He burst into tears when he found out.

Yeah he’s written some great songs but it’s so insulting that we have to believe he was the first person to think about singing about things, like nobody had any idea what art was before Bob Dylan came along. That kind of thing just exists to grind ordinary people down and make them feel they are in a different category to the pantheon of artists the world has accepted
