Inspirational song from an incredibly uplifting movie - 5/5!

Can absolutely understand arguments for any score but my teenage years can’t let me go for anything other than a 5. First artist I got absokutely obsessed with independently at about 13 and basically hoovered up everything he released until I was 19 or so.

Most of it still stands up to an extent despite some easy to mock slightly embarrassing lyrics it’s all done with enough sincerity to hold up. The crack in his voice still cuts through me too.

Dont think they ever put together a front to back 10/10 album but 4 8/9s in a row plus loads of great b sides and good stuff from the albums either side means yeah. 5 for me for the Prince of sadboys

Would be up for contributing to the playlist if it’s still a going concern

It is, and you can!

Here it is fully updated

I hope you like B sides that sound like they’ve been recorded in a bucket then, funkster

My all-time favourite. His body of work now is incomparable with most in terms of number of excellent songs. Favourites are Trees Get Wheeled Away, Let’s not Shit Ourselves and Haligh Haligh. Song writing genius!!
That’s a 5 by the way!!

Never liked them enough to finish one of their songs, but don’t feel like I know enough to vote.
Abstain/5

Almost exclusively.

Liked him a lot when I was a much more tedious person than I am now but his voice grates me too much these days.

Also was at THAT Glastonbury set where he acted like a prick.

A generous 3

The sort of band I ought to like more than I do. I can recognise the quality but somehow they’ve never really clicked with me - I probably was way too old when they came along. I don’t hate them at all but I don’t really listen to them very much.

My honest mark would probably be a 2, but I gave Kings of Leon a 2 last time and so it has to be a 3.

I’ll stick with album stuff. Looks like easy/lucky/free is going to win the singles vote so I’ll add Haligh and Laura Laurent to get a nice spread on there please

Solid 3. 4/5 for songwriting, 2/5 for his voice.

It’s probably Lifted or Awake but The People’s Key is in for a shout too. Really underrated album!

A bit surprised - thought this was going to be full of people shouting ‘5’ whilst I quietly dropped my ‘3’ vote then went home to listen to something more interesting.

Anyway… 3

there was a HGATR a while back where there was a discussion about who had the most irritating vocal affectations, this guy is the correct answer
