I also appreciate the works of Norwich’s finest Cathy Dennis
The Bluetones.
Most of the snobbery is just white men telling other white men that the reason they like or don’t like music is because they’re white men though. There has been much more putting down of people who like rock music or don’t like pop music (whether collectively or individually) in these threads than putting down of people who like pop music, and the same is true when it comes to the discussion of the artists themselves.
Bed time for me now anyway
Both 5/5 without question
White Men are the worst tbf
If the majority of people can’t question the majority of people then I’m not sure what hope there is.
Also that’s a simplistic defensive misunderstanding of the point. Sweet dreams, pal.
There were three of them!
Shed Club 7
Indeed, this thread degenerated v quickly into a pointless tussle over tummy fluff, losing sight of transcendent magnificence of the feckin band.
It’s a travesty, mate, a travesty…
Flicking idly through the latest Uncut at the breakfast table, and what do I find…
ahem
this is lovely and true.
The last page is unfortunately too blurry to read, but from the other two pages, it’s fascinating to me that Guthrie shits on Treasure so much and lauds Victorialand. As this thread has shown Treasure is widely considered to be their best, and yet Guthrie considers it ‘unfinished’ and prefers the album that actually does sound unfinished; Raymonde’s absence is keenly felt.
It’s a bit like the fact that the only thing all four of The Smiths agree on nowadays is that Strangeways was their best album by far. Musicians are often poor judges of their own material. I suppose that it is next to impossible for them to disentangle the work from all of the associations that they will have with it arising from whatever was going on in their lives when they made it.
they’re right tbf
There’s always one
I had another go at the last page

Neil Young (again)
