It could have been a high 3 from me, but I’ll sneak them a low 4. The skits, interludes and random bits of shite littered throughout 3 Feet High ruin the album for me. The songs themselves are cracking though. Every album is listenable at the very least and consistently good at best. Just wish they’d edited some more.

As sad as it is to say I’d probably be a bigger fan if they were on streaming services. 3 Feet High & Rising is enough for a 4 - it could well be a 5 if I wasn’t such a lazy, lazy man.

They gave away all of their albums as free downloads a few years ago. May have reduced the market for a CD reissue.

A Tribe Called Quest say otherwise.

I feel a few people are rating 3 Feet High and Rising, rather than De La Soul.

Ha, true, I forgot about them. We Got it From Here is probably the definitive example of an old school group making a great modern rap album. Hope we get to hear from Q-Tip/ATCQ in some capacity soon, it’s also a bit tragic how rarely he puts stuff out.

Do you not rate any of the other albums? I feel they are underrated (and lots of people on here are making a point of referring to them)

His new one is awesome. It’s rare a rap song makes me laugh but Racing Stripes and Dog at the Door really made me chuckle. Such a great writer. Should probably take this to another thread…

Yeah, De La Soul is Dead to Stakes is High is one of my favourite album runs in hip hop. So it seems unfair to rate them based on their debut. Sorry - maybe phrased that post badly.

Never heard of these before but they seem fun and the production is good on the one track I listened to.

Might try an album this afternoon but it’s probably 4/5 from me

Don’t know what you have listened to so far, but this one might be of interest to you if you’ve not heard it

Christ I love this song so much.

A rare example where I love the original and the track built on the sample equally

None Shall Pass is the classic album, but there is gold to be found in pretty much all his records.

couldn’t pick between this, Since I Left You and something by The Go! Team - but what a party that would be
