She. Is. Wonderful.
Giving her a 2 instead of a 1 because she’s a terrific human being. The genre of music is one I absolutely loathe however.
Musically think she’s an important development in terms of a very prominent woman in country genres when that wasn’t a thing, hugely diminishing returns in the last 35 years though.
she’s good
watched that doc about her with my family that they showed on xmas, was a lovely moment
A babe in every sense of the word. 5

I meant the multiple choice!
+1 for Jolene
+1 for 9 To 5
+1 for being, frankly, an amazing person.
Might not do it so much for me musically, but her efforts to aid child literacy (over 100 million books have been sent to children since the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library scheme began) and other philanthropic acts are legendary. She’s funny as hell, too.
3.
Ranks high on the GBOL metric
Musically doesn’t do very much for me, but Joelene is easily one of the greatest songs of all time

Used to think she was a bit of a corny joke until I met my wife, who’s from Nashville and started to learn a lot more about country music in general and Dolly in particular. She’s an absolute icon and has basically done it all herself in an era where so few women were able to exercise any kind of control over their careers. The Imagination Library is right up there among the best things anyone on this list has done.
I’m going to be unhappier about this score than any other HGATR we’ve had so far. Considering hiring a botnet to register millions of fake accounts to vote 5.
Listen to more country music. The big name, commercial stuff is largely absolute dross, but you could say that about almost any genre.
I could not like this post more.
Not a genre of music I’m really into, but she’s undeniably a fucking fantastic songwriter and person. 4/5.
If only @anon5266188 were more like you. He has a lot to learn.
My wife is a Dolly fanatic so I listen to a lot of it by osmosis, and I am definitely warming to it. That documentary on her the BBC showed at Xmas was incredible too. She’s amazing.
I often think this tbh
I think she actually might score alright y’know
I wish I was more like our best friend @anon3515918 but unfortunately I am not
3 for the music, bumped up to a 5 for her films and for her charity work.
Don’t know too much of her material other than the hits, but she’s kind of iconic. Never really inclined to listen but the owner of the record shop I worked in years back used to play a Bluegrass album (late 90’s)? that was really lovely morning music with coffee.
I’ll abstain but feel this belongs…
She’s got two early compilations which are well worth a listen - both called The Best Of, the first covering the late 60s, the second covering the early 70s. I can’t imagine wanting to explore her music further though. 4/5 for those comps multiplied by the GBOL quotient.
