Kingdom of Rust is a choon
never listened
are they a bit like Elbow
Insofar as they’re both bands from Northern England that use a combination of instruments to write songs and release them as albums, yes.
Fantastic band. 4/5 for me. But this is possibly my favourite ep of all time. Sub Sub - Coast absolutely brilliant slice of balaeric loveliness.
It’s a 5 from HGATRHQ.
A solid ever present in my adult life. Seen 'em live loads, feel like part of the fabric of Manchester, great bunch of grizzled old lads, their records always transport me back to the time each was released and plenty to still enjoy going back to each.
Plenty of trendier and more influential bands, but not all bands need to be trendy or influential. A high 4 I think?
Maybe their best album cut:
accidentally aye?!
liked a few singles at the time. later picked up the first two albums in Poundland. Last Broadcast is decent enough but Lost Souls is pretty strong. gave the latest one a listen as well and it sounded alright. think i only know the singles from the two albums in between. could be tempted to go and and see them if their tour goes ahead, if anyone else i know is going.
the epitome of a 3
The threeiest three that ever was
Loved lost souls and the last broadcast is also a very good record. A solid band. 3
Had Lost Souls on the 1001 albums thing and went in with decent expectations after looking at the reappraisal thread here. Was surprised that I didn’t really remember any of the tracks, despite some of them being pretty big singles, which I actually think says a fair amount. It was fine, with a couple of memorable tracks, but pretty pedestrian overall, without ever really exciting. I never felt the need to go back to it or explore the rest of the catalogue. Might give it another go, but it’s a decent-ish 2/5 at the moment.
1, maximum beige bedwettery
Abstain, no idea what they sound like.
when Doves cry
Very good.
Strong work
One of those bands that really remind me that we’re all different people with different tastes and likes and dislikes, because I cannot imagine having a strong opinion on this band that simply… exists.
yes, but better
No band has ever needed the 2.5 option more. 2 is too harsh, 3 is far too generous.
Got a lot of affection for them. Can imagine them passing me by and thinking they were boring or just “nice” or whatever, but they caught me at the right moment, and The Last Broadcast was a big deal for me at the time.
Some great gigs over the years too - I don’t listen to the albums often these days but would happily head out to their next gig (the gig at SWG3 after they got back together was fantastic, as have been any Barras ones).
