šŸŽµ How Good Are They Really šŸŽµ Elastica

Also their ripping off is up there with The Enemy

Shameless.

5/5 from me. Debut album is one of the best of that era, who cares if it sounds like something else, what doesn’t? Might have been a good thing that they got torn apart before they could make anything else that might not have been as good. The Menace is fine as comeback records go.

Somehow I only know the Menace and have never listened to the debut

The Menace is a bit naff but I like the one with the silly dog noises

I wasn’t that into the debut at the time besides liking the singles and it hasn’t grown on me since. I did like the funny ep they came back with between the albums, an interesting hodgepodge of stuff and some really good tunes, as they reused most of it on The Menace I never bothered to give that a listen though. Stutter is undeniable. Probably a 3.

A 4. I absolutely adored them, but it’s astonishing how quickly and badly they screwed things up.

Like for the last part of that post

Anyone seen this? Saw it a month or two ago. Was expecting it to be the usual Oasis-Blur merry-go-round but was heavily slanted towards Suede and Elastica with Brett and Justine being interviewed (the latter via her laptop).

I gave Elastica 4/5.

Their debut is a 9/10 album and I can’t remember much of their second but who cares the debut is stunning album that still sounds great today.

I remember a mini ritual of mine was to listen to Waking Up that I taped from The Evening Session before walking to school before each of my A’Level exams.

As mentioned above though, ā€˜Connection’ is better than ā€˜Three Girl Rhumba’! They stole the riff from ā€˜Three Girl Rhumba’ and made a better song out of it. Stealing riffs is totally fine I think.

Nation of Checkout Girls is better than Common People

Just find it quite funny that when a band people don’t particularly like do it they get absolutely slated and mocked as a laughing stock but if its a band people like do it, ah it’s fine, everyone does it

Guys, the thread for bands no-one’s thought about in years is over that way :arrow_right:

I haven’t yet but I’ve been meaning to!

I think Waking Up was one of the first singles I bought when I was a kid. From what I can recall the cassette box was designed like a pack of playing cards and the shop assistant in Woolworths didn’t realise at first so tried to sell it to me without putting the cassette in. Quite an anecdote, I’m sure you will agree.

I gave them a 4 because, whilst I haven’t listened to them in ages, they retain a coolness that very few other Britpop era bands do. For me anyway.
