Really, really fucking good, that’s how.

Neither of those bands are electronica though. And ‘music for people who…’ posts are now punishable by trebuchet.

Oh sorry, well then I revise my statement to: shit music of some unspecified genre.

Don’t really get them tbh

They sound like a YouTube parody band or something, but without the attempted funny lyrics. 0/5

Abstain. Always get excited when I read a description of their music but have been underwhelmed by what I’ve heard so far. Will give the favourites a go from the polls.

The sort of dull ‘clever’ indie music that gets reviewed in the Guardian and the Telegraph and leaves me absolutely cold (see also: Field Music).

No appeal for me whatsoever, but liking the way this thread is polarising between “hate them” and “would offer them my firstborn”. Is anybody going to say “meh, they’re alright I suppose”?

I don’t fully understand it, but I love this description.

Adore them, only discovered them last year having written them off on the basis of their name and genre for years (didn’t realise it was a Radiohead reference).

The first guitar band to excite me in over a decade.

Wrote the best song about a fatberg ever

oh yeah, 5.

Absolutely love screaming along to the very fun and silly lyrics of No Reptiles

They sound to me like the sort of band formed on a music performance course at college.

Full of guys who are extremely proficient on their instruments and know loads about music theory but the resulting sound is just totally sterile.

In addition to the above article…

They’re basically the perfect storm of art-rock, electronica, dance, and an emotive pop sensibility. Cerebral in form and lyrical content, whilst also massively danceable and bags of fun. They make me feel like a teen again where music matters more than anything. Thought I’d lost that feeling in my 20s but the excitement in the run up to the last 2 albums took me back to those days.

They’ve got that vintage Radiohead thing going on where I can make an argument for almost any track being my fave on a given day, and relegating tracks as good as The Mariana and Breadwinner to a cheeky little post-album EP.

Get To Heaven is my personal pinnacle. An album full of bangers where the subject matter is a nuanced examination of extremism of all forms. They’re a positive voice to a young fanbase in a way which feels rare for what is ostensibly a generic white male 4-piece guitar band.

Jonathan Higgs clearly has a wildly polarising voice but it’s an all-timer for me. We’re gonna see a fair bit of vitriol in here for him and the music. Seem to be a band you can’t just be ambivalent towards and really bring out the vitriol. Probably testament to them in some way that they feel important enough to be hated.

Like Elbow, they also have the rare property of being a band my wife and I both love. Their GTH era outdoor gig at Somerset House is one of my favourite musical memories.

Looking forward to a score in the 2s :upside_down_face:

So difficult to choose a best song from that poll. Whilst they’re quite a varied band they’ve remained so consistent at making alt-pop/rock bangers throughout.

Great band, the lyrics are good and funny and I like the writing from different perspectives thing they do. Be nice if they changed up their sound a bit, as it’s getting a bit workmanlike now; the pallette they use of those chiming guitars, skittery drums and big synths doesn’t really do much for me, but on the other hand it’s nice that they stay true to their schtick even as what’s popular moves on. No Reptiles is sick, proper audacious and more than a bit silly but really affecting too. Good 4 from me.
