Another one who saw a show on the Four Tet tour. EITS blew my mind then Four Tet did some stuff with a drill.
Thankfully Rescue Rooms has a seperate bar right nextdoor.

That one-two of Those Who… and The Earth… is untouchable. Has been diminishing returns for me since and they bored me to tears at Manchester Academy a few years later but still a 4/5.

Not sure there’s any band where I went so quickly from loving them to going off them completely.

Adored them around the time of Those Who Tell the Truth and went to see them at the Thekla around the time that The Earth Is Not and they were brilliant.

But I was also writing for an instrumental/post-rock website at the time, and the absolute deluge of rip offs that popped up on a weekly basis afterward that I had to review genuinely tarnished the original for me.

I know it’s not fair on them, but that particular style of chiming-guitar post-rock ended up really setting my teeth on edge through over-exposure. I also think they’re very limited in terms of what they do and inadvertently killed a lot of innovation and experimentation in instrumental/post-rock music, which is a real shame.

Haven’t gone back to them in years, so maybe I’ll do that before scoring.

Echoing most of the comments above - loved them until and including the TEISNACDP but after that severely diminishing returns. I did really like the first track off All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone though - I love it when it kicks in around 4mins (I do find the drums a little distracting up that point though especially the cymbals).

Probably a 3 for me as I don’t get the highs I used to listening back to them but at the time they were immense, prefer Godspeed or Mogwai if I reach for some classic post-rock nowadays.

I remember seeing a really effective fan made “music video” of that track to the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan

This for me too. Maybe lazy comparisons, but for me EITS don’t do anything that Godspeed and Mogwai don’t do much better. Probably a 3.

Gone with a 4. ‘The earth…’ is on of my top 5 albums of all time. Everything since i can give or take, to be honest. If im in the mood for EITS then there is really only one album im going to choose. But god it’s amazing

Also went to the Four Tet gig at Bristol Trinity. EITS just blew my mind

Probably be a 4 from me, like most on here I had a phase where I was really into them which died off relatively quickly.

First three albums are top tier though, I’ve just had to go and check the tracklists and for some reason thought Those Who Tell the Truth… was their debut for some reason. Anyway How Strange, Innocence is my favourite which is steeped in nostalgia for me, I was also a huge FNL fan so there is definitely this blend of emotionally charged nostalgia for me between music and show/film (I remember watching first season of FNL in quite a difficult time)

I still sometimes stick on Remember Me as Time of Day on a sunny morning to start a run (where I imagine myself getting ready for the big game in West Texas :sunglasses:)

Haven’t listened to the Rescue or the Wilderness and barely remember anything from the other two. May have to go back and give them a whirl.

Even though the most overplayed, Your Hand in Mine is absolutely beautiful and is definitely in my top 3 but will have a think before I vote

Gone for a controversial 2. Loved Those Who… and The Earth for years, but… they’re actually really boring albums. Yes that’s unfair in the sense that they’ve sort of become much more boring due to identikit bands coming after, but really they only made an impression on me the first time around because I’d never heard anything like it.

As already said, Godspeed! and Mogwai albums still hold up today as interesting to listen to in a way that EITS just don’t.

Speaking of boring, my band at the time recorded one shameless Poundstretchers EITS homage song:

Did get some good Russian Big Muff action in on the chorus, at least.

It’s a good metric to use I think

I probably have heard ETIS really but all that post rock stuff blends into one. It’s only when I saw the picture I realised these weren’t Oceansize

Would be a good competition in trying to find the most generic Explosions-a-like track I think. My first thought was some Mono album filler track, but then I remembered there was some This Will Destroy You album or EP that might as well have been a parody album.

That first TWDY album has not aged well. Saw them twice on that tour :open_mouth:
I really used to listen to a lot of terrible post rock.

Still trying to make up my mind on what to vote for EitS.

I saw them as well and they started arguing on stage

Counterpoint: The Mighty Rio Grande is the best EITS track ever written.

Oh, this is still very good.

Could have given you quite a lot of names for this about 10 years ago, been from memory If These Trees Could Talk were egregiously unoriginal.
