I moved about loads tryina find a decent sounding spot but it never happened! Think it was made worse by it being peak post-rock phase for me so didn’t live up to my expectations at all.

  • I had post rock phase between about 2001 - 2005 and very suddenly got bored of it
  • I had a post rock phase between 2001 - 2005 and still regularly listen to a lot of post rock
  • I never cared for delay pedals

Should have worded it as ‘All Of A Sudden…’ :grinning:

Been listening to mono a lot recently. This track is probably the best example of straight up post rock for me;

That whole album is brilliant, prob my fave by them.
Reckon Mono are at their best with the full orchestra etc.
Probably no coincidence that both their live albums use the orchestra too.

I think “very bored” is extreme, but I certainly stopped looking for new bands doing it and rarely put it on any more.

I’m not going to skip any of my favourites if they come up on my ipod or have a tanty when Sigur Ros pop up on the telly though.

Little later than 01-05 but there was definitely a phase and it definitely ended abruptly.

Alternative answer:

I had a post rock phase between 2001 and 2005 and got bored of the quiet loud chiming guitar stuff really quickly but still love the more interesting stuff like Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis, Disco Inferno, The For Carnation, Isotope 214, Labradford, Fly Pan Am etc.

(And Slint, GY!BE and Mogwai, obviously).

Important band for me. Discovered at time when I was learning to appreciate music outside of usual song structures. Already enjoyed electronic music and hip hop but yer mogwai, Sigur Ros, godspeed, EITS etc were quite formative for young Jeff.

Still really enjoy all the post rock I listen to, probably because I didn’t bludgeon myself with the scene and there wasn’t much overlap in sound in what I listened to.

Think they have remained pretty consistent too. This is one of their best imo.

The most 3/5 imaginable

See I reckon EITS are maybe more consistent, but it’s them that have knocked out consistently middling stuff (with a couple of good ones mixed in). Like everything’s in the 5-8/10 zone, whereas Mogwai have had a few missteps along the way but have at least 4 proper 10/10s in their back catalogue, and continue to release strong and interesting material. Opinions eh.

Aye its all opinions for sure.
Think across any given LP or soundtrack EITS are consistently good imo whereas Mogwai can have a string of three records of Meh saved by 2 or 3 Belters per album.
Different ways of operating and very different bands anyway.
I like them both.

5/5 for me easily.

Really like EITS, a band that I frequently go back to and listen to, particularly The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place which naturally gets my album vote.

Admittedly Mogwai will always be my favourite of the two, (if we’re comparing) but I’m a huge Mogwai fan (evidently) so in any discussion about most bands I’d say that.

I don’t think there is any EITS album I dislike, though a couple aren’t as strong as others and The Earth Is…will always trump the rest for me, I mean, Your Hand In Mine is just dreamy perfection imo.

Not really adding much to the discussion, just professing my love for EITS a little

Exactly the same for me, post rock is still one of the genres I really enjoy when I listen to it which is pretty frequently still.

Is postrock the worst genre? Probably.

Didn’t think I’d ever heard EITS but I’ve seen Friday Night Lights so guess I must have.
