I had no idea their name was a Simpsons reference.

After your first sentence I thought we were gonna get a Goblin Cock thread

I was always a real snob about FOB and wrote them off as shitty saccharine pop rock. Wife has been a massive fan since the MySpace days and made me go and see them in Bournemouth a few years back. They were great. I found that I knew all of the words to their hits (of which there are bloody loads) which had seeped in to my brain over the years.

Wouldn’t sit down and listen to one of their albums but it’s a generous 4 for so many bangers.

That’s the only noteworthy thing about them.

Andy Hurley also seems like a good dude, and in the 90s was in the band Racetraitor who slap on both a musical and political level.

Their political advocacy centered around anti-racism and anti-colonialism, discussing issues such as white privilege, class privilege, the war on drugs, biases in the US criminal justice system, economic globalization, and US foreign policy.

One. Maybe a bit harsh cause they’ve got a few catchy singles but his voice ruins them imo and they’ve also got a lot of shite in there

Really should hate them but I just can’t bring myself to. Mrs Dewdney loves them too. A generous 3 for a few genuine bangers.

This ain’t a scene is really fun but don’t like anything else by them.

Some great singles, meh albums, awful song titles.

Even though it’s sometimes incel adjacent or whatever I enjoy how bitter and nasty their lyrics can be, coming from a place midway between self-deprecation and self-loathing (“I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me”). It’s a bolshier evolution of the Pinkerton-esque internal overshare but it’s quite impactful.

Also a fan of the video for Thnks Fr Th Mmrs with the monkeys.

Same as Panic, I guess - never LOVED them, but liked their singles a lot (although Panic’s debut is better than any of FOB’s albums). Proper mid-noughties teen fodder. I think a 3/5 but if I spend the day listening to Dance Dance or I Don’t Care on repeat then I may generously upgrade

A bad version of a usually good thing.

Corporate Busted

Been meaning to check out the first/second albums for years and never got around to it

Ah yes those bastions of the DIY underground scene, Busted. Charlie Simpson was basically GG Allin for the SMTV crowd.

It’s all relative.

Part of Busted’s charm was that they were a bit shoddily amateurish.

Weren’t Busted put together by a record label after auditions
