Yes there’s loads of shite but that’s easily filtered out imo, and Sara makes up for everything :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

So why are you surprised by the Beastie Boys doing well but not REM I guess? Wasn’t meant to be a specific comment at your either (sorry if it came across like that) - lots of people saying the same thing

I also didn’t say I was surprised because this board of course is made up of a demographic and skews lots of things like this. I would point you to shrewbies post tho.

The beastie boys is such an incredibly dis choice. The era, the context, sequence of their career, it’s all perfect

Rumours deserves its position as one of the highest selling albums of all time, and Tusk is an under-regarded, brilliant album. Shitloads of great singles beyond those albums as well.

Good book. Hadn’t previously made the connection but then I don’t really know much about Fleetwood Mac.

Yeah had no idea they were so revered on here. Like them but wouldn’t put them near any of the other artists in the top ten.

I don’t understand the outrage at the Beastie Boys being popular here. Their career-span practically matches Pixies and nobody had a fit when they got a big score.

I’m still confused about the ā€œSupremes demographicā€ on here.

Genuinely astonishing.

don’t think anybody is outraged or having a fit

Don’t think I’ve ever knowingly heard a Fleetwood Mac song.

I am, but for completely different reasons

You’ve probably heard Rumours in it entirerty through osmosis

fleetwood mac occupy a space between 2 and 3 for me. Some great tracks, couple of good records but i’ve never really got on board with them. I guess too much of their output is middle of the road pish. i’ll decide later in the day if it’s a 2 or a 3.

Your initial post sounded (to me at least) like you thought that they did well purely due to the demographic on here and they wouldn’t have done as well if it hadn’t been because of this, and I don’t agree with this. I’m also aware that they’ve done better than any other hip hop act, but I think there is slightly more to it than ā€˜they are white’. It’s fairly easy to see why all of their most popular records would appeal to a demographic beyond hip hop fans. The only time made a pure hip hop record it was a commercial and critical flop at the time it came out, and remains the worse selling record from their peak 80s-90s era.

My 15 year old self would hate me for saying so, but they are really, really good (in the prime Buckingham/Nicks period at least). Three top class and contrasting singer/songwriters supported by an amazing rhythm section. What’s not to like.

Narrowly voted for Rumours in the album poll, but Tusk is amazing and runs it really close. I also have a lot of love for the unfashionable Tango in the Night.

Maybe my language exaggerates it a little, but there does seem to be some hostility to the result.

WTF? The Beastie Boys are amazing and very very loved which is why they scored so high.

Exactly

Whichever way you look at it, it’s genuinely astonishing that a majority of DIS contributors apparently think The Beastie Boys are better than Bowie, The Beatles and Prince (to name just three).
