One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.

Saw them on the John Peel stage at Glastonbury about 12 years ago and they were outstanding, despite their style of music being very much not my thing. Never heard a note of their recorded output. They can have a 5, it’s a nice memory.

A band I am always in the mood for. Love them.
They have cheered me up so many times during this pandemic.

Difficult to choose a favourite album. Went for Chemistry but could easily have gone for Dose, David or Hidden World on another day.
Hopefully we can poll the EPs later.

Also Sandy Miranda is the best bassist in the world just in case you were unaware.

I don’t get it. I’ve tried, but I don’t get it.

Stick em on the pile of bands that should be my thing but leave me cold.

Going to go in two footed with this one to kick us off: to me they sound like a band with great vision and ambition but they can’t pull it off because they’re ultimately a very average punk band.

Far too early for a take this absurd.

I enjoy them in moderation but most of their songs and albums that I’ve heard seem to go on much longer than they really should. I’d probably have more time for them if they wrote shorter, punchier songs but for the most part they take 3 minutes of ideas and drag them out to six or seven minutes for a 13 song album, which tends to wear a bit thin.

They’re cracking live though (saw them as a 9 piece and it was dead good). Probably a 3.

Think this is the first hgatr where I have genuinely never heard of the band.

Probably means they are some sort of 00s emo/ska/post-punk pop band.

Or maybe not.

Obvious 5

The best punk band of the last 20 years.

Can’t really articulate why, but I absolutely love them. One of those bands who I will go and see every time they’re touring.

Just wish his voice was as interesting as the music. It’s obviously very good as a screamy hardcore voice, but I tend to find screamy hardcore voices get pretty tiring after 10-15 minutes or so. If hardcore was my thing, they would absolutely be my thing, but it isn’t so… 3?

It’s a 5 from me. Genuinely exciting and innovative, whilst being a fucking brilliant group of musicians. Never seen them live but I want to please.

Proper weird band for me like Deerhunter and Thee Oh Sees in that I don’t think I have ever sat down and listened to a record by them but, at every opportunity I have seen them live and they have blown the roof off everytime. So 5

Have you listened to Dose Your Dreams yet? Damian was quite busy during its recording apparently so is less of a constant presence.

This a good example of its judicious deployment :nerd_face:

Wish @Kallgeese was here for this.

It’s like if you asked Black Flag to cover an entire Pink Floyd or Yes or Genesis album or something.

i love them. proper sense of fun and playfulness about them which made them kind of a gateway act for heavier music for me

david and dose your dreams are both masterpieces, can’t decide between them

The Other Shoe is a massive choon.

A lot of it leaves me cold.

2 or 3 out of five.
