It was released without the band’s permission. I got it for those three tracks, and in fact listened to them yesterday based on this thread, and they’re… ok. Think there is some weirdness around rights to their music which I assumed is why Fambly Cat isn’t on Spotify, also this issue put paid to the disc of bonus tracks on the piano record in the UK.

By the way if anyone hadn’t spotted it, someone is ranking all the Jason Lytle tracks ever released (until they find more) and its got some interesting factoids here and there, not least because Jason keeps replying to explain stuff…

It’s been years since I listened to that record, but didn’t it sound a bit throwaway? Maybe I need to go back to it but my memory of it is sounding like overly simple arrangements and lyrics thrown together without much of the emotional hook of their best works.

yeah not really changed my mind having spent a lot more time with them.

sorry but i think the software slump is just boring. found under the freeway and sumday a bit more interesting. the rest - meh.

think if i had got into them at the time i would have probably really liked them, much like pavement. 2

that image that @anon19035908 used at the top, sure that isn’t just 5 dissers?! :grinning:

Just been listening to Under The Western Freeway. Summer Here Kids came on and I was reminded of @thewarn’s excellent anecdote from the Sophtware Slump HGIIR thread about the Grandaddy instore he attended

I’m still not reading this thread but I put Sumday LP on the other day and damn The Warming Sun is so lovely.

Anybody else get into them after they split up initially? Think I only heard them cos of a Charlie Brooker thing and seeing UTWF got like 9.7 from Pitchfork so I blind bought the CD off eBay.

I agree, it’s a little too long. It starts off really strongly but sags a bit in the middle, then picks up again. Campershell Dreams is my favourite from that record:

I think overall the album just misses the humour of their best records, to cut through the mournfulness a bit.

Only really familiar with Last Place and Jason’s solo records which I both really like. Should probably check out The Sophtware Slump, shouldn’t I?

Always find Grandaddy pleasant when I put them on but have only done so recently because of the hgagr/hgiir threads. Should really listen better to them instead of having them as background too, feel like I could get into it a lot. The fuzzy guitar towards the back end of Sumday was really up my street.

Think I’ll abstain on this one due to an ill-informed and premature opinion

@Bamnan what are your 2 playlist picks please?

how does this work again, you take that and the top rated track from the singles poll?

What score will we be happy with then, Grandaddy fans?

Hoping for 4+, expecting 3.4

Somewhere in between is my guess.

A Grandaddy listening club would be good imo.

With all the EPs and that?
