Their most recent song was great too:

Best to ignore that horrific derailment and forget everything anyone said about how people should be voting and their motivations for doing so. Just do what you’ve always done.

We all have our own ideas of how we rank and rate music, the end score is an aggregate of all of our personal systems and opinions.

I like them, but I don’t quite get the reverence some people (including lots whose taste I really respect) have for them. They’ve never quite connected with me emotionally in the way they obviously do for others - they always seem a bit wispy and insubstantial to me. If I had one of their records on I’d enjoy it plenty, but I would rarely think of getting one off the shelf.

I’ve given them a 4 and predict a high mark for them. It’s hard to imagine a more ‘DiS band’ than Grandaddy I think.

I think you’ll get on with Under the Western Freeway a bit more tbh squire, knowing your tastes a little bit. I know I’m in the minority but think it’s way better

Interesting!

it’s a great album and probably different enough to their other stuff to give it a go if the other stuff isn’t doing it for you.

i’m quite surprised @Severed799 didn’t take to the software slump knowing his tastes

x

I wasn’t being entirely serious, especially as I was part of that conversation

it’s a 2 for now

I was surprised too, though I chalked it up to not having nostalgia for it. I liked Crystal Lake at the time but never really got into the record, then sort of forgot about it until a couple months ago

Yeh it was definitely a point in time for me

The Beach Boys cover the other week was great!

I believe they want you to give in

Love utwf and sophtware slump. Find sumday etc exceedingly dull.

4 i guess?

This represents my thoughts on Grandaddy until I saw the solo tour about 18 months ago. Revisited them in advance of the show (an incredible gig) and now absolutely love them.

I came very late to Grandaddy. I’d heard Summer’s here kids on No Disco and really liked it but never bothered with anything else of theirs. Then about 2015 I decided to go back and retry them and Sparklehorse after a chat with friends. I’ve never gotten into Sparkle but fell totally for the 'Daddy (I’m not going to stop calling them that now  )

TSS deserves to get the respect The Soft Bulletin and Deserter’s songs get, but Under the Western Freeway is brilliant as well. Last Place is also a lovely album, I still haven’t checked out the other albums. I really should do that.

I saw them in the Oslo in London a few years ago, it’s a small venue and tickets were like hen’s teeth but a friend got me in. It’s one in the best shows I’ve ever seen, the atmosphere was like a party more than a gig and the band were having a blast as well.

I got to see them in the Roundhouse on the last place tour and they were really good as well.

Long winded 5.

I like some of their stuff, but some of it bores me to tears.

Really, really don’t like the Weezer style pop-punk chug-chug-chug kind of guitars in tracks like Chartsengrafs and Now It’s On much prefer it when they’re a bit more quiet and expansive.

Maybe a 3.

Oh boy, its a 5 from me Clive. Have been smitten since hearing AM180 on Mark and Lard on Radio 1 (?) whist working in Ireland back in 1998. Seen them loads… love Jason’s solo stuff cos he is essentially Grandaddy. Caught the piano show last year in Glasgow and it really distilled what is so great about the songs.

What a video

Very easy 5. I didn’t realise how much I loved them until the Sophtware Slump HGIIR thread and recently had the pleasure of reminding myself of quite how consistently good they were.

SS best album by a long way, but love pretty much everything they have done.

Always particularly liked Florida from Todd Zilla. Not their best song, but pleasingly nuts.

Favourite song is Miners at the Dial-a-view, but most of SS is up there. Now It’s On probably my favourite single.

Wonder if I’ve still got my one of these somewhere from when Sumday came out

Also got a Rival Schools frisbee. More bands should give out frisbees.

I like them but don’t love them. Sophtware Slump and Sumday are both good albums.

3/5 for me. A band I appreciate more than love.
